    SUMMARY:

    This position provides leadership in mineral reserve and resource acquisition, exploration, green-fielding and mine planning as well as providing geotechnical leadership and support in relation to securing the stability of excavations, lagoons, and waste ponds. This includes the ability to manage mine planning to ensure long-term geotechnical stability of structures and supporting the safe and economic development of mineral resources and reserves. Is an advocate for all aggregate and construction activities with state DOT and supports all company quality control initiatives. Individual reports to the company President.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Perform geological office and field investigations associated with proposed and existing construction aggregate operations.
    • Effectively coordinate and represent the company’s interests regarding land use, property ownership and management and related exploration and mining/mine development endeavors.
    • Perform surveying staking activities to delineate digging extents of overburden excavation projects at multiple locations.
    • Regularly provide geological, topographic, and rock quality information maps/documents.
    • Provide technical and geological guidance to the mine development department to assist with mine planning, sequencing, and reserve analysis.
    • Provide leadership, management, and advice relating to engineering geology and geotechnical services to the Region.
    • Undertake the design, management, and reporting of mineral reserves geological investigations, and mine planning.
    • Provide advice and support to operations teams on the safe implementation of mining methods with regard to mining, geotechnical, hydrological, and mine planning issues.
    • Experience in estimation, assessment, evaluation, and economic extraction of Mineral Reserves.
    • Preparation of plans, procedures, rules, and advice to ensure the safe implementation of mining methods during the quarry life and after reclamation is implemented.
    • Undertake audits and reporting of site compliance with agreed schemes and procedures.
    • Provide input into regional projects as necessary.
    • Procurement and management of external consultant services as required from time to time in accordance with specified procedures.
    • Provide ad hoc specialist reports and technical advice relevant to the work of the department.
    • Represent the interests of the Companies in discussions and meetings with the planning authorities, regulatory bodies, and others.
    • Work in close cooperation with line management, particularly the Production and Operations Departments, to ensure continued cost-efficient production of aggregates.
    • Develop geologic targets within specified geographical markets within the Region.
    • Develop and maintain database of aggregates operations within the Region.
    • Develop exploration/drill programs for target sites.
    • Assist Mine Planning in reserve analysis and mine planning at existing operations.
    • Work with operating teams to keep accurate records of all real estate and related agreements including royalty arrangements, leasing, deeds, easements, etc.
    • Work with operating teams to file and track assessment reports required by government entities.
    • Keep all existing land packages in good standing and establish a warning system to alert operating teams of impending lease expirations, royalty adjustments, etc.
    • Submitting and tracking exploration and work permit applications on behalf of the company.
    • Assist as needed in coordination of land-related tax matters.
    • Assist in due diligence and negotiation in real estate matters to support the company’s M&A and greenfield activity
    • Work with the operating teams to plan, forecast, budget, and satisfy all land-related obligations necessary to maintain the validity of all of the company’s lands and interests in land.
    • Support permitting or environmental requirements or initiatives of the company as requested.
    • Report and maintain land database, records, maps, reports, etc. to advise the company of its land holdings and associated agreements, rights, terms, payments, royalties, maintenance obligations, and receivables.
    • Regular reporting will be required as well as continual maintenance and update of land maps and records.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor of Science in Geology required
    • At least 5 years experience in surface and subsurface geological investigations, mapping, surveying, recordkeeping, mineral reserves assessments, quality control, and stratigraphy required
    • Experience within the construction aggregate industry preferred
    • Must pass a drug screen, background check, and applicable physical/functional capacity tests
    • Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record
    • Registered Professional Geologist is preferred.
    • Project management experience.
    • Proficient use of MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint ARC GIS, AutoCAD and Carlson.
    • Proficient use of other software relevant to engineering geology and quarry design eg. LSS, SLOPE, DIPS etc.
    • Ability to read and understand stability analysis and calculate factors of safety.
    • Exceptional prioritization and scheduling skills.
    • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
    • Excellent accounting & negotiating skills.
    • Diplomacy and sensitivity to highly confidential information.
    • Flexibility to weekend/evening working, start early or close late occasionally when required.
    • Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects at a time
    • Ability to travel (25% or less)
