SUMMARY:
The Vice President of Quarry Services will have direct supervision of the Directors of Quality Control, Safety, Quarry Services, Construction, and the Senior Geologist/Environmental Manager. Ensure proactive support to our highly effective quarry operations through close guidance and supervision of direct reports. Must be able to fill in for Directors while they are on vacation or otherwise away from work. The Vice President of Quarry Services is a company officer reporting directly to the President/CEO/COO.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
\- Work hand-in-hand with VP-Operations to assure the high performance of operating quarries.
\- Establish excellent working relationships with quarry superintendents to assure timely assistance and coordination of all non-production activities and responsibilities.
\- Through the Director of Quarry Services, ensure proactively meeting the needs of superintendents.
\- Through the Director of Safety, take ownership of the company safety program and review/oversee efforts to improve our safety culture.
\- Through the Director of Construction, oversee construction projects and the construction crew as well as the work of outside contractors working at quarries.
\- Through the Director of Quarry Services and Director of Construction, ensure major repair and construction projects are well documented and reports are distributed appropriately.
\- Through the Director of Quarry Services and Director of Quality Control, ensure outstanding quality controls and well-trained QC Technicians. Be prepared to hire a replacement Director of Quality Control within 4 years.
\- Work hand-in-hand with the VP-Operations to meet the highest standards of aggregate production Quality Control.
\- Through the Director of Quarry Services and the Director of Quality Control, support the VP-Sales and his direct reports to address customer concerns with our aggregate products.
\- Through the Environmental Manager ensure compliance with all applicable state/federal regulations.
\- Work hand-in-hand with the VP-Operations and the Director of Quarry Services to plan for and implement permit actions to ensure timely quarry development.
\- Review and approve safety, construction, environmental and quality control related invoices.
Through oversight of the Senior Geologist plan and coordinate all test drilling and evaluating new sites.
\- Prepare and present plans for each new fiscal year in an Annual Planning Meeting.
\- Prepare and present at annual Officers’ Retreat for long range planning.
\- Administer and enforce all company policies and procedures at operating quarries.
\- Formally evaluate and develop all direct reports.
REQUIREMENTS:
\- Minimum 4-year college degree and at least 15 years of experience in the aggregate quarry industry.
\- Prior work experience with aggregate production processes, plant construction, maintenance and repair, safety, quality control, environmental and permitting matters, and planning and repair/maintenance procedures is required.
\- Must be a “self-starter” with an excellent work ethic, be proactive in his support of the quarry operations through direct reports and be a team player.
\- Solid computer skills are required, including fluent use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
\- Must have excellent managerial and supervisory skills, including budgeting, development of personnel, recruitment of talent, development of new sites, regulatory practices and procedures, and long-range planning.
\- Must be able to work very effectively with the Vice President – Operations as well as other officers in the Company.
\- Should be comfortable discussing/explaining aggregate production issues and making recommendations clearly and concisely to senior management.
