We are seeking an experienced and confident Respiratory Therapist (RRT or CRT) who is comfortable working with ventilator-dependent and tracheostomy patients in a long-term care/group home setting. Position Summary
The Respiratory Therapist provides specialized respiratory care services across multiple residential group home locations. This role includes scheduled clinical visits and on-call respiratory support for urgent resident needs.
The ideal candidate has strong experience with ventilator management, tracheostomy care, respiratory equipment troubleshooting, and staff education. This position plays a critical role in ensuring safe, high-quality respiratory care for medically complex residents.
Reports To: Charge Nurse
Key Responsibilities
Respiratory & Clinical Care
- Provide ventilator management, monitoring, and education for residents and care staff
- Perform tracheostomy care and trach changes as clinically indicated
- Administer nebulizer treatments and monitor treatment effectiveness
- Perform airway suctioning (oral, nasal, and tracheal)
- Provide airway clearance therapy, including vest therapy and related treatments
- Assess respiratory status and respond appropriately to changes in condition
- Ensure respiratory care plans and ventilator settings align with physician orders
Equipment Management & Troubleshooting
- Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot respiratory equipment including:
- Mechanical ventilators
- Oxygen concentrators
- Pulse oximeters
- Nebulizer machines
- Air compressors
- Coordinate repairs and replacements with DME providers as needed
- Ensure equipment cleanliness, maintenance, and regulatory compliance
- Conduct routine equipment audits and documentation reviews
On-Call Support
- Participate in an on-call rotation for evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Respond promptly to urgent respiratory concerns including:
- Ventilator alarms
- Oxygen-related issues
- Equipment malfunctions
- Acute respiratory distress
- Provide clinical guidance remotely and on-site when necessary
Education & Staff Training
- Educate nursing and direct care staff on:
- Ventilator management
- Tracheostomy care
- Suctioning techniques
- Emergency respiratory procedures
- Conduct competency validations and in-service trainings
- Reinforce infection control and airway safety best practices
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation
- Ensure compliance with physician orders, agency policies, and state regulations
- Participate in interdisciplinary care planning meetings
- Maintain active licensure and NBRC credentialing throughout employment
Qualifications
Required
- Current state licensure as a:
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), or
- Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)
- Active and verifiable NBRC credentials
- Current BLS certification
- Experience caring for ventilator-dependent and tracheostomy patients
- Strong clinical judgment and independent decision-making skills
Preferred
- ACLS and/or PALS certification
- Experience in:
- Long-term care
- Home health
- Residential/group home environments
- Experience working specifically with ventilator-dependent tracheostomy patients

Work Environment
- Travel between residential group home locations required
