    Reports To: Chief Nursing Officer

    General Statement of Function:

    Job Summary:

    The Director of Respiratory Therapy directs and coordinates the Respiratory Department staff and the care of

    the patients according to hospital policy. It is also the responsibility of the Respiratory Therapy Director to

    ensure compliance with regulating and accrediting bodies. The Respiratory Therapy Director provides

    leadership for the staff and facility team leader, in addition to providing professional respiratory care within

    the assigned unit.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

    1. Responsible for overseeing the quality of care provided to observation patients and outpatients

    2. Provides respiratory care to all age groups, neonatal to geriatric

    3. Adheres to Human Resources policies with regards to hiring, evaluations, disciplinary action and

    resignations or terminations.

    4. Maintains respiratory therapy guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures

    5. Maintains respiratory therapy operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing programs,

    operational, and personnel policies and procedures.

    6. Maintains respiratory department staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training nurses and

    auxiliary staff

    7. Maintains respiratory services by coordinating appropriate staffing

    8. Attends meetings as requested/required

    9. Holds staff meetings for information sharing and to encourage communication of staff to management.

    10. Evaluates the staff’s communication within and between department(s).

    11. Evaluates performance of staff utilizing a variety of data: patient satisfaction surveys, chart review,

    patient interviews.

    12. Participates in quarterly departmental meetings with physicians, risk management, administration to

    determine needs of physicians/patients and to report findings of monitoring for feedback.

    13. Reports results of monitoring quarterly to CNO.

    14. Participates in Performance Improvement monitoring to evaluate quality and effectiveness of

    respiratory care.

    15. Assists in identifying areas of practice for monitoring and improvement.

    16. Provides input for resolution of respiratory therapy department problems, and for policy and

    procedure development.

    17. Engages in performance evaluation quarterly, identifying areas of strength, as well as areas for

    improvement.

    18. Seeks guidance regarding own practice.

    19. Ensure the operation of all equipment utilized is within proper working order and all malfunctions are

    reported within a timely manner.

    20. Provides professional respiratory care to patients while working as a Respiratory Therapist in staffing 2

    days a week with 1 administration day a week.

    Qualifications:

    Required: Current Respiratory License by the Georgia Composite State Board

    Current BLS Certification

    Current ACLS/PALS on hire or within 6 months of employment

    Training/Experience: Respiratory Therapy experience, management experience preferred

    Job Knowledge: Must be able to utilize standard of office equipment. Must be able to utilize

    diagnostic equipment as well as patient care equipment. Must be able to utilize

    personal protective equipment such as gloves, gowns, mask, etc.

    Interrelationships: Coordinates care activities with all departments and staff throughout facility.

    Has frequent direct patient contact.
