RAII is a non-profit organization building tangible governance tools for trustworthy, safe, and fair Artificial Intelligence (AI). RAII is currently building a first-of-its-kind certification system that assesses AI systems across a number of dimensions, including fairness, explainability, and robustness.
RAII works closely with both public and private-sector organizations, including the World Economic Forum, to guide and inform organizational AI governance around the world. RAII also provides consultancy services to top organizations across a variety of industries, from healthcare to finance. In this capacity, RAII develops company-specific policy frameworks and training programs and conducts extensive research in order to provide tailored recommendations for implementing bias testing, data collection, and other ethical practices.
About the Policy Team
RAII’s Policy Team works to ensure that current global thinking – including laws, standards and research – is reflected in RAII’s tools and assessments. The team works with practitioners, RAII Working Groups, researchers, experts, and like-minded organizations around the world to discover current and relevant best practices. The team also conducts research, synthesizes its work into case studies and writes reports on specific topics.
Job Description
- Conducting research on issues related to responsible AI (e.g. bias, explainability, or the legal or social implications of AI).
- Aiding in developing RAII’s certification program.
- Engaging with subject matter experts to tailor the certification to specific use cases.
- Coordinating expert working groups.
- Managing changes to the certification.
- Researching regulatory questions related to the certification (e.g. legal requirements for AI in different jurisdictions).
- Shepherding the certification program from development to implementation.
- Developing research-informed policies and recommendations for member organizations on topics such as accountability and legal compliance.
- Creating AI governance frameworks for member organizations.
- Producing written reports (white papers, academic papers, and blog posts) outlining RAII products, developments, or research.
Knowledge and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in the social sciences or a related field.
- 2+ years of professional or academic (at a graduate level) experience.
- Interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated excellence in writing and research.
- Interest in the intersection of technology and society.
- Interest in real-world impact and in interacting with leaders to achieve tangible change in their organizations.
- Desire to learn about technology regulations and standards in the United States and internationally.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred, but not required:
- J.D. or Master’s degree in public policy, the social sciences, or a related field.
- Experience researching (in a professional or academic setting) some aspect of policy or law related to AI (e.g. privacy, upcoming AI regulations).
- Knowledge of and/or experience with standards development organizations and processes.
- Experience engaging with stakeholders across both public and private sectors, and across a variety of industries.
- Familiarity with recent AI policy developments in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Europe.
