Human Resources Assistant JOB LEVEL: Off 1-3

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS
• Assist with all aspects of Human Resources. The Human Resources Assistant will be responsible for applicant processing, and general clerical duties related to Human Resources. The goal is to maintain efficiently the process of screening applicants, scheduling 2nd round interviews, assisting employees with questions, follow up with supervisors and employees on training, maintain accurate records, assist with orientation of new employees, assist with payroll, and coordinate all company functions with the assistance of management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist with staffing with direction from supervisors and management
• Process payroll weekly and distribute checks
• Make sure all Time-Off requests/Vacation/PTO is entered each week for payroll process
• Assist in processing and maintaining all applications; following the laws regarding this procedure
• Disburse health insurance letters to newly eligible employees
• Process new hires in ADP
• Assist with processing new Workers’ Compensation claims and inform Safety Director immediately of accident
• Maintain employee files in accordance with applicable laws
• Maintain employee records on absentee, years of service, accident record, etc. for awards.
• Organize service/safety awards annually and any other company function
• Coordinate performance evaluations at an employee’s 3rd month and annually
• Assist supervisors and management with orientation of new employees
• Assist with Drug Testing (Random and New Hire)
• Assist employees with questions on company policies, payroll, benefits and safety
• Track all employee Vacation/PTO
• Assist with exit interviews and ensure corporate office receives termination information in a timely manner – this will prevent loss of company funds (recouping loans, tools, etc.)
• Make sure Turnover Rate Report is current each week
• All other duties assigned by supervisor
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
• Attend meetings
• Answer telephones as needed
• Assist in other office areas as needed
o Must be cross-trained on all office functions, including HR, scales and sales
o Assist any manager or supervisors with projects as needed
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
• Report directly to Human Resources Manager
QUALIFICATIONS
• Computer literate (including MS Word, MS Excel)
• Typing, data entry
• Good communication skills
• Good organizational skills
• Ability to work well with others
SAFETY
• Follow all office safety regulations
• When in one of the mills:
o Follow all area/machine center specific safety regulations
o Wear all required personal protective equipment: hardhat, safety glasses, hearing protection, etc…as required
o Do not enter restricted areas
o Report immediately to supervisor any piece of equipment that is unsafe or functioning improperly
o Request assistance when a task exceeds individual knowledge
o Visually inspect equipment and area before starting/operating
o Whenever possible, eliminate unsafe conditions as soon as possible
o Use Standard Lockout Procedures when appropriate for machine centers
o Use proper lifting technique by pushing, pulling and lifting with your legs and not your back
o Never approach a saw while it is still running
• Follow all other safety regulations as set forth by the company
