    Hours: 10-15 Hours Per Week

    Preferences:

    Military background, college degree, medical background and/or experience with traumatic brain injury is preferred but not required.

    Musts:

    Must have current CPR and TB skin test or willingness to obtain, must like animals, be tolerant of cigarette smoke, be able to assist with lift of 200 lbs., be willing to engage in indoor and outdoor physical activity/labor and have reliable transportation.

    We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Right at Home team as a Community Support Specialist. In the position, you will play a vital role in helping an injured veteran achieve their highest level of independence.

    Community Support Specialist is a community-based position working with veterans who have brain injuries, PTSD, neurological disabilities and other cognitive or physical challenges.

    The purpose of the CSS is to:

    · Create goal directed activities while maintaining caring, casual yet professional boundaries

    · Perform ongoing evaluation and resource development for the veteran in the home and community environment

    · Develop opportunities for social and recreational activities to facilitate community reintegration

    · Provide assistance with improving independence in daily living skills

    · Encourage healthy exercise routines and physical activity in order to improve the veterans physical conditioning

    · Provide much-needed respite for family members while the veteran is benefiting from the therapeutic aspects of the program

    · Support interaction between the veteran and his/her community to increase general community awareness of the sacrifices of this generation of wounded veterans

    Community support activities may include:

    · Physical activity/exercise – walks, gym workouts, swimming, running, home maintenance/repair

    · Money management – meal planning, grocery shopping, budgeting

    · Community outings – library, bookstore, mall, movies, museums, and restaurants

    · Monitoring and teaching daily living skills – establishing personal hygiene routine, regulating sleep/wake schedule, developing daily tasks and assistance with technology/assistive devices

    · Educational – participate in educational or recreational class, encourage learning a new skill or hobby

    · Volunteer work – initiate volunteer activity in the community, provide job coaching and training and assist warrior with adjustment to volunteer work opportunity
