Job Description:
The Nurse Risk Manager is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and mitigating clinical and organizational risks in a healthcare or long-term care setting. This position plays a critical role in promoting patient safety, regulatory compliance, and quality improvement by analyzing risk data, investigating incidents, and supporting a culture of safety and accountability
Responsibilities:
- Monitor, investigate, and analyze adverse events, incident reports, and near misses to identify patterns, trends, and areas for improvement.
- Coordinate the root cause analysis (RCA) process for significant events and develop action plans in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including CMS, OSHA, HIPAA, and state Department of Health requirements.
- Serve as a liaison with legal counsel and insurance carriers regarding liability claims and investigations.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of all incidents, investigations, and corrective actions.
- Develop, update, and implement risk management policies, procedures, and education programs for staff.
- Collaborate with nursing leadership and department heads to ensure clinical practices minimize risk exposure.
- Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) initiatives.
- Provide staff education and training on risk prevention, patient safety, and incident reporting.
- • Support infection control and workplace safety initiatives as they relate to risk management.• Participate in facility surveys, audits, and inspections, ensuring readiness and compliance.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing in New York
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience; experience in long-term care or acute care preferred.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in risk management, quality improvement, or compliance.
- Working knowledge of healthcare laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.
- Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficient in incident management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
