Responsibilities of this specific role will include, but not be limited to the following:
• Undertake analyses using engineering first principles and probabilistic approaches to solve our clients' most difficult challenges in the built environment.
• Support qualitative and quantitative risk assessments for one or more hazards (earthquakes, flood, sea level rise, wildfire, wind, heat, climate change, etc.).
• Collaborate with other engineers and risk consultants on the development of risk mitigation, physical climate risk and adaptation, and resilience strategies for building and infrastructure projects and portfolios, corporations/institutions, and cities/communities.
• Work on defined tasks under the close supervision of a senior engineer.
• Prepare materials to communicate results to clients both internal and external to Arup.

As a Risk and Resilience Engineer Intern, you will support our mission to help shape a better world and to simulate our clients’ resilient futures. Through your work, you will help to advance and implement cutting edge methods that keep Arup at the forefront of our industry.
We encourage candidates who have interest/aptitude in any of the following:
• Seismic engineering, including performance-based assessment philosophies.
• Wind engineering and extreme environmental loading.
• Climate science, climate change models for physical climate risk impact analysis, and/or climate downscaling.
• Risk and resilience assessment and design across multiple natural hazards.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
• Pursuing Bachelor/MS/Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering (structural, water, hydraulics, geotechnics), Climate Science, or similar.
• Fundamental knowledge of structural engineering, disaster risk science, risk modeling, and/or physical climate risk, as appropriate.
• Understanding of computer programming and coding experience.
Preferred
• Coursework in probability and statistics, or data science
• Minimum 3.0 GPA or higher.
• Experience with structural analysis or climate physical risk analysis, GIS, and/or risk assessment software and tools
• Proficiency in computer programming

• Disaster and climate risk assessment for Cook Islands and Tonga (Asian Development Bank)
• Stanford University climate risk and resilience study
• Resilience-based Design Initiative (REDi TM ) for earthquakes, floods, and extreme wind
• Multi-hazard campus risk analysis and resilience strategies for universities, company headquarters, and data center portfolios
• Multi-hazard risk assessment for global supply chain of commercial and manufacturing facilities
