    Job Description

    Munich Re Specialty Group North America (MRSG N.A.) is seeking enthusiastic and talented individuals to join us as we grow. As part of Munich Re Group, we are a unique organization providing expertise in specialty and marine lines of insurance as well as surety risks and custom bonds with inhouse claims solutions. 

    We are seeking a full time SPECIALTY UNDERWRITING ASSISTANT to join the Munich Re Specialty Group Insurance Services division. 

    JOB PROFILE 

    • Support the MRSGIS Ocean Underwriting team as assigned.
    • Accurately clear new business submissions in a timely manner with the highest level of attention to detail.
    • Accurately issue quotes, binders, policy wordings and endorsements for underwriting review and approval.
    • Performing underwriting support activities associated with information gathering of new business, renewals, and mid-term changes, as well as electronic file preparation on behalf of the Underwriter. 
    • Understand and follow the policies, procedures, and business processes as defined in departmental service standards or as provided by your supervisor.   
    • Troubleshoot billing and accounting issues or discrepancies.
    • Maintain a full understanding of business process and service standards.
    • Adapt to evolving processes, procedures and systems to adhere to highest and most current servicing standards. 
    • Monitor workload and provide feedback to Supervising Manager if backlogs or bottlenecks develop. 
    • Identify process/workflow gaps, needs, obstacles and pitfalls and communicate them to supervising manger. 
    • Support positive and productive team morale. 
    • Engage in industry events as requested and remain current on both internal and external trends and needs. 
    • Maintain strong positive working relationships with key members of other departments and foster mutually beneficial communication and collaboration across functions.  
    • Follow all company procedures and guidelines and complete all required courses related to the same as designated by the Company.
    • Communicate with brokers through email/phone in order to resolve payment discrepancies or request further coverage information.
    • Participate in special projects as needed.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS

    Qualifications  

    • Minimum of 3 years Commercial P&C or related experience 
    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word

     

    Required Skills 

    • Ability to comprehend and support both manual and automated processes
    • Excellent verbal and written communication
    • Experience handling multiple high priority items simultaneously
    • Adherence to quality standards and operating procedures
    • Employs time/task management tools and techniques to support a large volume of work
    • High attention to detail
    • Strong organizational skills

     

    Preferred Skills

    • Experience documenting and implementing business processes and standards
    • Commercial P&C license and/or industry designation(s)
    • Experience with Commercial Property and/or Cyber Insurance
    • Knowledge of surplus lines insurance and regulations
    • Prior experience with financial products and services
    • Foundational knowledge of reinsurance
