    POSITION PROFILE

    A Government Sales Representative is responsible for maximizing and growing revenue and profits for government business within his/her assigned region by expanding opportunities with existing government customers and acquiring new business.  A key responsibility of a Government Sales Representative is to conduct business in a way that creates a superior customer experience that will set the stage for effective sales follow-up, as well as future product sales, with a vertical market sales focus on Federal Civilian Agencies, Department of Defense, Veterans Administration and State and local Government accounts. Representative shall work with the dealer sellers and Knoll Government Manager to effectively target, engage & close government business.

     

    Required Skills

    EDUCATION:

    BS/BA Marketing/Business degree preferred or the equivalent in experience

     

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

    • Minimum of five years successful government sales experience calling on Federal customers, VHA, DoD and other
    • Must possess strategic selling and negotiation skills necessary for complex multi-regional sales opportunities
    • Requires a strong knowledge of the GSA Federal Supply Schedules, State Contracts and the US Communities Government Purchasing Alliance
    • Self-motivated, self-directed with a track record of successful, credible lead follow-up and sales development at multiple levels within an organization
    • Exhibits a work style that is high energy, highly influential and can be an aggressive closer
    • Proven track record achieving measurable sales goals as assigned by Regional Leader and willing to accept responsibility for results
    • Strong interpersonal communication, presentation and negotiation skills
    • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, associates, managers, outside and inside contacts
    • Ability to work in with their sales teams and be an individual contributor
    • Positive and energetic with excellent listening skills and strong writing skills
    • Possess an entrepreneurial spirit with the highest level of integrity
    • Contract furniture industry experience is preferred
    • salesforce.com experience a plus

     

     

     

    Required Experience

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    Focus on Key Government Clients as updated each year:

    • VA & other Government Healthcare
    • DoD – AF BPA opportunities
    • HHS BPA opportunities
    • US Communities – emphasis state & local capital improvement projects, Higher Ed
    • (Regular visits required to Military Installations & all VAs)

    Milcon/BRAC Tracking – Prepare and update Blue Sheets for all BRAC and Milcon Projects

    Promotion of U.S. Communities Contract to all eligible customers – including all Non-Profits                 

    Understanding of Government Organization and Buying Practices as outlined in the GSA Manual Binder

    Ethics Compliance – in accordance with yearly Government Training & Company Policy

    Maintain relationships with Key Government Specifiers including:

    • GSA PBS
    • Army Corps of Engineers
    • NAVFAC
    • Government Contracted A&Es
    • End-Users
    • VA Interior Designers

    Presentation & Proposal Expertise – Government Sales Representatives are expected to be able to present all our the major dealer Product lines and to have the ability to assemble a winning proposal/bid response. This includes an understanding of how to position dealer lead lines against the competition

    Team Work – Government Sales Representatives are expected to share information regarding Government projects with their colleagues

    Research accounts, identify key players, generate interest and develop accounts to buy furniture

    Drive sales through product knowledge and workplace knowledge which will enable you to align key business objectives of clients   

    Become a trusted resource and develop superior relationships with customer

    Successfully manage and overcome customer objections

    Update customer interaction in salesforce.com to ensure efficient lead management

    Maintain an appropriate level of sales activity at all times by conducting a minimum number of sales appointments per week as designated by the Regional Leader

    Monitor market conditions, product innovations and competitors’ products, prices and sales
