  • Responsibilities

    The Constructability Manager works as an integrated member of the project team during the procurement, pre-construction, and construction phases to pre-emptively identify obstacles with the goal of preventing errors, delays, and cost overruns, and determining the most efficient means to construct while still achieving the design goals of the project.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES + RESPONSIBILITIES 

    • Perform responsibilities with excellence in service, integrity and building relationships as exemplified in DAVIS core values
    • Champion the DAVIS culture
    • Perform constructability/coordination reviews on various projects as assigned; sometimes working in multiple projects at one time
    • During the procurement and early design/construction phase, the Constructability Manager will conduct detailed drawing reviews to identify constructability/coordination conflicts, errors, ambiguities where the design may not meet client’s expectations for aesthetics, functionality, or durability. These reviews provide constructive feedback and potential resolutions to identified issues and foster a positive, proactive working relationship with project and design team members.
    • During the construction phase, the Constructability Manager will provide guidance, mentoring, and support to organize, prepare, and monitor status logs for RFI's, submittals, material deliveries. Along with advanced submittal & shop drawing reviews, will manage the coordination of work between multiple trades, design teams and consultants, to ensure alignment with the contract documents.
    • Review documents for errors, omissions, ambiguities and conflicts
    • Review documents to identify issues that may impede construction and highlight factors that may impact DAVIS or other project team members in terms of safety, schedule, quality, cost, or dimensional coordination (with focus on early critical trades)
    • Identify potential conflict or issues in critical building systems that involve multiple trades (i.e. building façade, mechanical/electrical rooms, bathrooms, lobbies).
    • Perform advanced submittal and shop drawing review with ensuring subcontractors submittals are coordinated between multiple trades and align with the contract documents with minimal supervision from Project Manager; process submittals to design team
    • Perform advanced review of project documents including overall coordination between trades to formulate comprehensive RFI questions and actively manage RFI process as required for project
    • Provide constructive feedback and potential resolutions to identified issues and maintain a positive working relationship with project and design team members.
    • Counsels, educates, and coaches team members to develop critical observation and problem-solving skills. Develops constructability review checklists.  Participates in the education of other operations staff in the constructability review of documents
    • Utilize a constructability observations database to document project issues to be resolved
    • Provide guidance, mentoring, and hands on education to new staff as required
    • Frequent jobsite visits and attendance in meetings
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    • Basic working knowledge of Procore for submittals, RFIs, Observations, etc.*
    • Bluebeam or Adobe PDF Editor*
    • Detail-oriented while maintaining focus on the big picture and project needs
    • Ability to visualize in three dimensions (3D) from two-dimensional (2D) drawings

    • Strength in reading construction documents*
    • MS Office – Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook experience*
    • AutoCAD, BIM, Revit, Navisworks experience
