    MISSION / SUMMARY:

    The Multicraft Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the installation, repair and maintenance of plant machinery, repair piping, automatic air, hydraulic and auxiliary operated equipment in the Mill, Powerhouse, and main office.  In addition, this position is responsible for performing certain building maintenance.Employee must function at high levels of quality and efficiency while maintaining the highest standard of safety.

     

    JOB FUNCTIONS: _Job functions include, but are not limited to the following. _

    • Performs installation, maintenance and repair work on mill equipment and fabricating plant machinery, which involves setting, leveling, aligning, dismantling and reassembling. The mill machinery includes cylinder molds and rolls, scales, elevators, machine drives, refiners and beater fillings, etc.
    • Direct the work of apprentices and mill labor as assigned for a given job.
    • Prepares sketches and drawings of replacement or new machine parts, and fabricates these parts using common machine tools.
    • Performs sheet metal work involved in making spouting, chutes, etc.
    • Must be able to perform arc and acetylene welding on all metals.
    • Constructs roll boxes, forms and does other rough carpentry work.
    • Plan and layout with the aid of blueprints, sketches, or oral instructions, the installation or repair of water, stock, chemical, air, high and low pressure steam lines, and automatic air and hydraulically operated equipment.
    • Perform pipefitting plumbing work on all types of pipe lines, valves and fixtures.
    • Pour and caulk lead joints in cast iron pipe.
    • Mixes, pours and finishes cement for foundations, bases and floor repairs.
    • Keeps power trucks clean and watches for any defects in operation.  Reports necessary repair or maintenance to the supervisor.  Exercises caution and care in the operation of material handling equipment.
    • Install and replace pipe covering when needed.
    • Disassemble valves, repair and replace valve parts, and reassemble when necessary.
    • Sketches and makes or fabricates parts by the use of pipe threading machine, drill press or required tools for temporary repair or devised improvement.
    • Inspect, salvage or discard used materials or equipment.
    • Must be qualified to weld steel and stainless steel pipe.  Use a cutting torch as required to remove pipe and miscellaneous material.  Braze copper and brass lines as needed.
    • Installs and repairs Scan Jets.
    • Responsible for in-house repair and maintenance of fire system.
    • Provide layout and design services for in-house projects.
    • Inspect machinery and equipment to be sure all parts have the proper amount of lubricant and add lubricant if needed.
    • Lubricate machinery and equipment such as:  beaters, pumps, rewinders, sheeter, etc.
    • Perform lubrication system, pipe, hose, tubing and filter maintenance.
    • Record the daily amount of lubricants used.  Make bi-monthly report of lubricant inventory and turn over to the storeroom.
    • Plan and layout from blueprints, sketches or oral instructions the installation, repair and maintenance of powerhouse machinery and equipment.
    • Perform pipefitting and plumbing installation, repair and maintenance work including all types of valves, fixtures and pipe lines for water, chemical, air, high and low pressure steam lines, automatic air and hydraulically operated equipment, etc.
    • Lubricates all machinery in areas.
    • Performs preventative maintenance inspections.
    • Diligently practice good safety and housekeeping techniques in accordance with Mill Safety rules.

    BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

    • Manufacturing and or Mill experience strongly preferred.

     

    EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
    • Journeyman Certificate preferred
    • 4 year Mechanical or Electrical Apprenticeship preferred
    • 8 years of experience as a multi-specialty mechanic
    • Must be able to read and interpret information sheets.
    • Basic electrical troubleshooting skills / repairs.

     

    SPECIFIC SKILLS:

    • Must be able to weld steel and stainless steel, and to use cutting torch and to braze.
    • Must be able to use various computer software programs for our production and shipping systems.
    • Must be able to use Maintenance Shop tools and power tools.
    • Job requires working around production equipment while it is in operation and requires climbing ladders and working from girders and scaffolding.
    • Job requires exposure to weather, dirt, grease, fumes and heat.
    • Must have knowledge of methods of lifting heavy equipment, which includes the use of chain blocks, rope blocks, slings, hitches and overhead cranes.

     

    SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

    • Follows a day or  shift schedule for the plant and be punctual while doing so.
    • Expected to cover vacancy for absent peers and work overtime.

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Standing for extended periods.
    • Awkward and/or repetitive movements.
    • Moving or lifting of equipment, materials, and tools up to 50 lbs repeatedly for an 8 hr. shift.
    • Climbing extension ladders, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or movement within confined areas.
    • Work in buildings and areas of fluctuating temperature and weather in all seasons
