  • Responsibilities

    JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Employee/Staff Service

    a. Assure the cafe area is maintained with proper items – beverages, grab-‘n-go items, sandwich stock items, and coffee supplies.

    b. Properly and accurately perform cash register functions.

    c. Serve patients, staff and visitors in the café.

    1. Meal Production

    a. Prepare items for the grab-‘n’-go display, breakfast items and sandwiches to order.

    b. Initiate and complete prep for the following shift/day to ensure efficiency in the department.

    c. Assure that all food is of acceptable quality and has proper presentation.

    d. Help conceive menu ideas. Assist with the production, set-up and clean-up of special functions.

    e. Perform other duties as assigned by the manager of Dietary Services.

    1. Safety/Sanitation

    a. Take temperatures of hot and cold food items produced and assure they are maintained in a safe food zone. Record temperatures for the appropriate meal items on the temperature log in the production book.

    b. Perform daily, weekly and monthly cleaning assignments as listed on the cleaning schedule located in the Weekly Production Book.

    c. Clean, sanitize and organize all work areas and equipment throughout the shift adopting a ‘clean-as-you-go’ philosophy.

    d. Assure that all open food items are covered, labeled and dated.

    e. Maintain high standards of sanitation and safety, and assure that proper food storage and food handling is demonstrated at all times.

    f. Comply with the Hospital’s Safety and Infection Control programs.

    1. Department-specific

    a. Assist as needed in areas of operation to ensure a team atmosphere is displayed.

    b. Ensure all cleaning tasks, production work and cleaning tasks are completed satisfactorily.

    c. Assure that food and non-food stock is dated, labeled, rotated and put in their proper refrigerated/freezer/storage room upon delivery from food vendors.

    d. Comply with the Hospital’s policies and procedures including Employee Health, Safety, Infection Control and Human Resources.

    5 Personnel

    a. Promote a team environment by example and by participating in workload completion when necessary.

    b. Interact with employees and customers in a sensitive and positive manner.

    c. Project a professional image by wearing appropriate attire and remaining poised when relating with others.

    1. Participate in Hospital committees, meetings and team projects.

    a. Attend all mandatory in-services and meetings.

    b. May be involved in department performance improvement projects.

    Required Skills

    Physical/Mental Demands: 
    
     1. Must be able to read and communicate through written, verbal and auditory skills and abilities. Verbal and hearing ability is required to interact with patients and employees. Numerical ability is required to maintain records, work with recipes and measurements.
    
    
    1. Standing and walking is required most of the shift, along with stooping, reaching, lifting and carrying food and kitchen equipment; must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds.

    2. Must be willing to work variable hours, including weekends and holidays.

    3. Physically/Mentally able to perform job duties as verified by a physical exam by a licensed physician, per post-employment physical.

    Required Experience

    EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

    1. Experience in café cooking, restaurant cooking, or sandwich preparation is desirable.

    2. Experience with gourmet coffee brewers desirable.

    3. Must be 18 years of age or older.
