At BMC, the Associate Commodity Trader position supports the BMC Commodity Team with a primary focus on data collection, inventory needs consolidation, internal distribution, logistics tracking as well as “fill in” replenishment. This role will also act as a point of contact for locations on commodity related customer service issues for assigned locations / markets. Responsibilities will eventually grow to include the upkeep and administration of rebate programs, demand planning for VMI programs, and supply chain analytics. A successful candidate should enjoy a fast paced and high-volume work environment… working cross functionally with departments outside of Sourcing/Supply Chain and have strong customer service skills.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Focus on location and market driven customer service for everyday inventory needs.
- Manage the gathering of inventory levels, purchasing requests and special job needs.
- Works with Senior Commodity Traders and Commodity Traders to conduct data analysis as well as item file maintenance to help ensure correct supply chain ordering controls.
- Works with Senior Commodity Traders and Commodity Traders with the maintenance of cost changes, price lists, commodity graphs, logistics tracking and job quotes.
- Manage the outflow of product to locations participating in internal distribution models (hub and spoke and consignment).
- Supports supplier volume / rebate data collection efforts.
- Monitor and study both current and historical trends related to pricing and production.
- Monitor margin to turns performance for assigned products to ensure correct alignment.
- Other duties as assigned by company management.
Required Skills
- Minimum education required: Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent in work experience.
- Excel and Power Point proficiency and market analysis skills.
- Other: Computer literacy.
- Special skills required: Strong interpersonal communication and writing skills, organization, negotiation
- Special knowledge required: Building materials products and distribution methods is preferred but not required.
Required Experience
- Minimum experience required: Some purchasing/supply chain experience is required and negotiation experience is preferred.
