    OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY: 

     

     

    Assists with technical aspects of endoscopy under the direction of the physician and/or Endoscopy RN.  Maintains and cleans endoscopy equipment.  Provides patient care within prevailing national and state standards of practice and the policies of the hospital. Communicates appropriate information to other team members. May have additional responsibilities as designated by the clinical nurse manager which include, but are not limited to, providing patient care in other perioperative departments, serving on committees, participating in QA/Performance Improvement audits and projects. Maintains aseptic environment during procedures.

     

     

    KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

     

    1. Knows and adheres to policies of the hospital and demonstrates fiscal responsibility.
    2. Follows standards, policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for endoscopy care according to accepted standards.
    3. Prepares endoscopy suite and equipment prior to procedures according to hospital policies and specific physician’s orders.
    4. Maintains adequate supplies in room. Terminally disinfects and cleans room and equipment before and after patient care.
    5. Maintains and demonstrates current skills and knowledge in endoscopy procedures, their purpose, expected results and safety factors involved, endoscopy equipment, GI tract anatomy, airway maintenance, patient teaching, emotional/social support of patients and families, medical terminology and other needed clinical competencies.
    6. Enacts patient and family centered care, including a wellness-centered approach to care.
    7. Remains calm and functions as a team member during times of stress and crisis situations.

    Required Skills

    LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION: 

    1. BLS required within 30 days of hire date.
    2. Current EMT or CNA certification preferred.

     

    Required Experience

    EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 

    1. Previous experience as Endoscopy Technician.  One (1) year experience in endoscopy or related field required. 
    2. Demonstrates clinical competency and understanding of all types of endoscopy procedures.
