  • Responsibilities

    Performs a wide variety of protective, investigative, and courtesy duties. There are three posts within the Emergency Department, ER1, ER2 and ER3 (hours of coverage 24/7). The ED Security Professionals need to have exceptional, gracious, and empathetic ‘Customer Service’ and will have control over areas of the ED. These areas include the ED front lobby, ED waiting room area, visitor bathrooms, ED parking areas, making rounds in the ambulance bay and throughout the back of the ED as specified by policies and post orders. Observes and reports for safety and security deficiencies, taking corrective action(s) or reporting same to Hospital Facilities Department and the emergency department for action(s). This position requires an individual to be able to stay on their feet for up to (8) consecutive hours, walk in and around the ED, have the physical strength to confront whatever situation presented with. This position has physically demanding and mentally challenging conditions and occasional exposure to disagreeable elements. Must be able to assist the ED in responding to all Code Gray (Combative Person) activated calls and be able to de-escalate visitors or patients that are getting verbally aggressive with the staff. ER1 must be able to stop visitors from entering the department without checking in and have the flexibility to use his or her own judgment in assisting in situations that need immediate attention.

    Required Experience

    Required:

    • Meet APIH Health Security Services hiring qualifications.
    • Must have 5+ years’ experience in Security Industry, or former Military, or former Law Enforcement.
    • High school Diploma or equivalent GED
    • California (BSIS) issued CA Guard Card
    • Must complete State approved/required educational security training monthly and annually.

    Successful completion of initial and annual:

    • HIPAA training
    • Blood-born Pathogen/Infection Control training
    • EMTALA training
    • N95 Fit Test
    • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
    • De-escalation training NCI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention), MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behavior) or VIP (Violence Intervention and Prevention) Response Training.
    • Competency Exams
    • FEMA I.S. 00907 – Active Shooter
    • Must complete Hospital approved /required educational training annually.
    • Must successfully complete Age/Gender specific training.
    • LA City Fire card within 6 months of employment (PHGSH only)

    Preferred:

    • Must have working, reliable phone number for contact when not on duty.
    • Must have a reliable means of transportation 24/7 for commute to and from work site(s).
    • Prior Security experience in Healthcare Industry
    • Prefer Supervisory Experience
