    USPI PASO DEL NORTE SURGERY CENTER, is seeking a motivated CHARGE NURSE to join our team. Paso del Norte Surgery Center is a fast-paced ASC environment committed to producing the highest quality work and experience for patients and their families. 

    We are looking for a top-performer with solid knowledge of Pre-Operative and PACU/Recovery Nursing in a fast-paced environment that is driven to reach the highest quality and satisfaction outcomes.

    Provide nursing care within state standards of practice and the policies of the Surgery Center.  Makes decisions regarding direct patient care needs and communicates appropriate information to other team members. Helps maintain equipment, supplies, and cleanliness of unit as a whole.  May have additional responsibilities as designed by the Clinical Director/Administrator, which include, but are not limited to, providing patient care in other departments (after being oriented and educated), serving on committees, participating in quality improvement audits, and projects.

    Clinical resource for Pre-Op/PACU nurses using evidence-based knowledge and prevailing standards of Nursing Practice.

    Assists in developing policies, procedures, and staffing essential to the achievement of the philosophy and objectives of the Center. Reviews and revises these in collaboration with the Clinical Director / Administrator, the nursing staff and the professional staff, keeping up to date on current trends in nursing practice and patient care.

    Directs and Evaluates programs and patient care activities.

    Assures documentation of patient care meets criteria dictated by legal practice, state, and federal health standards.

    Develops an organizational structure, assigning responsibilities and delegating authority that shall facilitate safe, effective, and efficient care for the patient.

    Provides leadership and support in developing and maintaining effective relationships with the center staff and the medical staff.

    Establishes, maintains, analyzes, and evaluates standards of nursing care within the Pre-Op and PACU areas in compliance with professional nursing standards.

    Prepares daily, weekly and monthly nursing schedules.

    Initiates and/or supports activities to control costs.

    Holds individual employees accountable for assigned responsibilities, individual goals, and performance expectations through annual performance evaluations and conferences.

    Establishes, maintains, and evaluates quality care studies within the perioperative arena in collaboration with the Clinical Director and the Administrator to improve the services the departments provide to others.

    Oversees the EDGETM responsibilities of direct reports and maintains own EDGETM requirements.

    Assists with environmental hazard and infection control surveillance, and participates in emergency preparedness drills.

    Maintains patient, physician, and employee privacy and confidentiality per policy and HIPPA regulations.

    Follows the Center's professional code of conduct and dress code policy.

    Communicates effectively and courteously with visitors, physicians and their office staffs, patients, and employees.

    Attends all mandatory in-services and meetings.

    Required Skills

    EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    • Current Texas Nursing License
    • Current CPR, ACLS, and PALS
    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
    • Minimum 4 year experience in Pre-Op/PACU setting
    • Ability to recognize, evaluate, solve problems and correct errors.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, hospital staff, physicians, vendors and the public.
    • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
    • Demonstrates accountability, professionalism, openness, receptive to change, creativity and innovative.
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Ability to adapt to change quickly, strong knowledge base relative to surgery procedures and management of the surgical patient
    • Understands principles of aseptic technique and their implementation
    • Ability to care for patients from infancy to geriatrics
    • Excellent teaching skills
    • Basic knowledge of Performance Improvement ideology

    Required Experience

    Graduate of an approved school of nursing. Currently licensed in the state. CPR required, advanced cardiac life support and pediatric advanced life support certification required. Four year experience required in Pre-Op/PACU setting. Demonstrates clinical competency, leadership, and teaching capabilities. Physically and emotionally capable of performing responsibilities of position.

    Demonstrates ability to work as a team member and to communicate directly and professionally. Is flexible, reliable, productive, patient-oriented, and self-motivated. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. He/she is able to identify and categorize each patient’s age-specific grouping of needs, such as those for an infant, child, adolescent, adult, or geriatric patient. Maintains professional conduct and appearance.
