    The Rosalyn Yalow Charter School opened September 1, 2015 with 212 students in grades K and 1, and will reach 536 students as a K-5 school in FY 2019-20, our 5th year. Some of our school's key design elements include: qualified staff focused on at-risk students; a robust response-to-intervention team, consisting of special education and ESL teachers overseen by a director of assessment; a quality curriculum, consisting of Core Knowledge Language Arts, Singapore Math, and inquiry-based science; high-quality collaborators, including the Bronx Arts Ensemble for art, dance, and music, chess instructors, and fencing coaches; meticulous data-driven instruction, guided by STEP Literacy assessment and NWEA MAP for math.

    The Rosalyn Yalow Charter School has an immediate opening for a Coordinator of Special Education. This position will provide support, guidance and oversight to our special education programs and related service providers. The candidate will also assist the School Principal in areas listed below.

    POSITION: COORDINATOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION

    Responsibilities

    • Program innovation planning
    • Program staffing requirements
    • Student referral tracking
    • Data interpretation
    • Program professional development planning
    • Program marketing and outreach
    • Identification and creation of new programs and services to meet the needs of our component districts and region
    • Ensure each site monitors and manages IEP review and IEPs receipts
    • Provide IEP related training and feedback to teachers and assistants/aides
    • Participate in IEP meetings (as needed)
    • APPR evaluation process
    • Assist Special Education teachers to create operational efficiencies/consistency across the department
    • Participate in the student intake process and/or ensure regular communication with all parties of the CSE

    Qualifications

    • Extensive knowledge of Special Education laws and regulations; 
    • Expertise in program development and supervision
    • Proven ability as a rigorous academic leader involving the common core standards and effective instructional practices for students with disabilities
    • Be an innovative planner and an effective communicator who has developed positive relationships with colleagues, faculty, staff, students and parents. 
    • Administrative experience in a special education leadership position
    • Degree in special education or a related field is required
    • SDA or SDL certification is preferred
