    Job Description

    ROSALYN YALOW CHARTER SCHOOL – OUR MISSION:  ELIMINATING THE LEARNING GAP FOR URBAN, DISADVANTAGED CHILDREN.     Located in the Bronx, NY, we offer a Private School Experience in a Public-School setting.. Our team-teaching model links a, experienced NYS Certified Lead Teacher with a Licensed Social Worker in each classroom. Our Teacher- Social Worker teams work together to identifying social/emotional issues in the classroom while implementing the curriculum to achieve Whole Child Development. Our school is a non-profit whose mission supports the belief that all students can learn at a high level, regardless of race, culture, or socioeconomic status. We are looking for staff who support this ideal as well as our students and parents.

     

    OPERATIONS ASSOCIATE

    Rosalyn Yalow is growing rapidly! We are adding student enrollments, expanding our grade levels, teaching staff and have moved into a High School campus!! TO SUPPORT OUR OVERALL GROWTH, WE ARE EXPANDING OUR OPERATIONS TEAM TO HIRE AN OPERATIONS ASSOCIATE! This position directly supports our Director of Operations in school management to provide excellence in operational execution. This role will support the experience and engagement of our families, our students and enable our leadership and instructional staff to perform at their best.  The ideal candidate is a self-starter with  strong self-awareness, accountability and can handle intense and mixed situations with grace, integrity and discretion.

     

    This position is a stepping stone to becoming an operations manager at Rosalyn Yalow or any other charter school and is an ideal opportunity for someone interested in a career in education and charter school management. The Operations Associate will report to the Operations Manager. This role affords many opportunities to develop skills and to grow with our team. The position is full time and salary range is $43,000- $55,000, depending on experience. Rosalyn Yalow also offers a generous medical and vacation benefits package.

     

    WHAT YOU WILL DO:

    •         Gather and create student data reports for the New York State Education Department.

    •         Handle a wide range of sensitive issues which affect the school’s operations, following protocols closely.

    •          Coordinate with other school leaders and staff in District 9, to plan and execute the tournaments that our students compete in for Fencing, Choir, Stringed Instruments and Chess.

    •         Support student recruitment to ensure full enrollment and accurate reporting.

    •         Manage the distribution of student meals and transportation needs.

    •         Distribute supplies to instructional teams as needed.

    •         Coordinate special events, such as the annual Thanksgiving meal, chess and fencing championships, and choir recitals.

    •         Work with IT consultants to troubleshoot technology issues.

    •         Create communication documents for parents and/or School Staff

    ·         Strong sense of propriety in handling sensitive issues that affect the schools operations, able to follow protocol with propriety and insights.

    ABOUT OUR STUDENTS:

     Yalow’s diverse population comes from all over the Bronx, some students traveling almost 9 miles one way to get to the school. They come from the far north, far east, far south, and the area near our campus. We maintain a 94.3% attendance rate. That rate demonstrates motivated students and loyal parents. Last year brought us 507 students from 431 families. Our diverse student makeup includes 63.6% Hispanic and 35.4% African or African American. 55% of our students come from households that speak languages other than English at home. 38% speak Spanish; others speak Soninke (7%), Mandinka (3%), Fulani (2%), French (1%), Hausa (1%), and Twi (1%). These languages are spoken by less than 1%: Arabic, Bambari, Bengali, Russian, and Yoruba. All these cultures give our students and staff a wonderful opportunity to learn from one another.

     ABOUT OUR NAMESAKE:

    ROSALYN YALOW, born in the Bronx in 1921, is a Nobel Prize-winning American medical physicist. Yalow worked in nuclear medicine, following her special interest in radioisotopes. She did her research in the Bronx, which is the reason we named our school after her. Dr. Yalow received the 1977 Nobel Prize for Medicine.
