    The Firm:

    Rose Law Firm is looking for an experienced Litigation Paralegal/Legal Assistant to join our boutique law firm in Lake Oswego.  Our firm offers a wide range of services both as transactional lawyers and as litigators within the practice areas of business transitions and succession planning, corporate, real estate, executive compensation, tax, and estate planning (www.rose-law.com).

    Overview of the Position:

    The right person for our combined Paralegal/Legal Assistant position will have 10+ years of law firm experience in litigation matters, be interested in the legal areas in which Rose Law Firm practices, and be a quick and eager learner who is looking for a long-term position with a close-knit team.  Experience with legal document formatting and production, legal research, court filings, client file management, in our firm’s practice areas preferred. 

    Responsibilities:

    • Assist 3-4 attorneys with client, case, matter, and project management, including drafting and sending engagement and conflict waiver letters, managing document organization of client file in both physical and electronic form, managing/docketing deadlines, and anything else to help the attorneys keep all files at the firm moving forward smoothly.
    • Assist with the preparation, formatting, and proofreading of correspondence, memos, pleadings, research outlines, and agendas.
    • Produce, edit, and format legal documents such as pleadings, briefs, motions, opinions, complaints, orders, and subpoenas; compose routine letters and memoranda.
    • Draft discovery requests, such as requests for production, interrogatories, and requests for admissions.
    • Maintain docketing calendar and tickler system for all deadlines.
    • Assist with trial preparation, prepare trial notebooks, manage exhibits, assist with depositions, and assist with attorney fee petitions.
    • Familiarity with court system and court rules (federal, state, appeals, etc.) and interacting with court clerks. 
    • Basic legal research as needed.
    • Prepare/maintain pleading logs, discovery logs, trial notebooks, closing binders, and entity binders.
    • Effecting filings with Secretary of State’s office and searching records, including performing UCC searches and filings.
    • Coordinate with title companies, gather TRIOs, file deeds, etc., on matters dealing with real estate.
    • Complete basic clerical tasks, including data entry; photocopy/scan/fax; organize firm library books.
    • Perform any other task required to assist the law firm function effectively.
    • At least 10+ years’ experience as a legal assistant and/or paralegal.
    • Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate from an accredited institution preferred.
    • Commercial and/or business litigation experience is ideal.  Some combination of debtor/creditor, appeals, bankruptcy, foreclosure, real estate, collections, and/or civil litigation expertise would be preferred.
    • Familiar with online WA, OR, and federal court filings (circuit court, appellate courts, bankruptcy courts)
    • High level of experience in Windows OS, Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel, and Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat Pro required.
    • Strong sense of ownership.
    • Flexibility and ability to balance multiple tasks and competing priorities.
    • Works well under pressure and possesses high level of attention to detail.
    • Demonstrated integrity, strong client-relationship skills, the ability to use judgment, tact, discretion, and keep information confidential.
