We're seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to support a portfolio of capital improvement projects at a large industrial manufacturing facility. This individual will serve as the mechanical engineering lead throughout the project lifecycle, from concept development and front-end planning through commissioning and startup.
This role is ideal for engineers with strong experience in rotating equipment, capital projects, and brownfield facility environments.
What You'll Do
- Lead mechanical engineering activities for multiple capital projects from concept through startup and closeout
- Develop project scopes, engineering specifications, equipment datasheets, and design criteria
- Support Front-End Loading (FEL) studies, project estimates, schedules, and execution plans
- Manage engineering deliverables and ensure alignment with project objectives
- Coordinate with operations, maintenance, construction, and engineering teams
- Support procurement efforts including equipment selection, technical bid evaluations, and vendor management
- Review and approve engineering documentation and project deliverables
- Participate in HAZOPs, design reviews, constructability reviews, and risk assessments
- Ensure compliance with Management of Change (MOC) processes and applicable industry standards
- Provide field engineering support during installation, commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and performance testing
Experience With
- Rotating equipment including pumps, compressors, turbines, fans, and blowers
- Mechanical equipment specifications and vendor drawing reviews
- PFDs and P&IDs
- Equipment selection and technical evaluations
- Inspection and testing programs
- Brownfield capital projects
- Commissioning and startup activities
- Management of Change (MOC) processes
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience within oil & gas, LNG, refining, petrochemical, chemical processing, or other heavy industrial environments
- Experience supporting capital projects from design through startup
- Strong knowledge of rotating equipment systems
- Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary project teams
- Strong technical documentation, communication, and reporting skills
