    Roto is seeking an Environmental Graphic Designer to plan, design and co-create immersive, branded environments for museums, science centers, children’s museums, zoos, aquariums, and similar destinations. The work spans all phases of the design process – from initial concepts through detail design. Getting hired at Roto means joining the premiere design-build firm and one of the leading innovators in the museum field, where studio teams of 12-15 interdisciplinary professionals work collaboratively to deliver highly interactive exhibits, cutting-edge immersive media, custom architectural features, sophisticated a/v installations, and world-class aquarium and live animal experiences.

    The role is multidisciplinary, highly versatile and collaborative.

    To be considered, applicants must:

    Provide a portfolio/work samples demonstrating your relevant 2D and 3D environmental graphic design experience.

    Be willing to relocate to the Columbus, Ohio, area. Roto is a hybrid workplace, with plenty of flexibility to contribute from home as well as within our 60,000 square foot studio/workshop.

    Essential Functions

    Research, brainstorm, and create innovative environmental and experiential design ideas and solutions with an interdisciplinary studio of exhibit designers, architects, content developers and project managers

    Co-create high-quality design documents that capture a creative vision and design intent through concept, schematic and detail design phases

    Collaborate with in-house Principals, Partners, media developers, a/v engineers, builders and independent contractors

    Contribute towards exceptional project innovation, pushing the boundaries of the field to be even more impactful, human and supersensory

    Craft and present ideas and work product to clients, stakeholders and internal team members

    Qualifications

    A minimum of 3 years of environmental/experiential graphic design experience

    Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field

    Experience with InDesign, Illustrator using CADTools, Photoshop and Sketchup is a must; experience with Revit/CAD a plus.

    Ability to design branded environments, content and informational signage, messaging, wayfinding, and visual systems

    What you bring to the role:

    Expert visual sense and understanding of typography, composition, and information design.

    Strong visual research and art direction skills. Hand sketching and illustration abilities a plus.

    Excellent verbal and written communication with ability to speak comfortably in front of clients.

    Working knowledge of signage, large format and environmental graphics production materials, methods and process; experience working directly with graphic vendors and installers a plus.

    Ability to produce detailed, to-scale design documents and to coordinate with architectural drawings

    Effective at managing multiple projects simultaneously with a Design Director's guidance, in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

    Drive to achieve ambitious, best-in-class results with high attention to detail.

    Passion for creating authentic and memorable environments for public/family audiences.

    A curious spirit, initiative to work without direct supervision, and ability to responsibly complete tasks in a timely manner.

    Interest in developing new skills.
