Route Driver – Box Truck (Local / Morning Shift)

CERO Cooperative, Inc., a Boston-based, worker-owned cooperative, is seeking a responsible, professional Driver to join our growing organic waste collection team. This is a local driving opportunity with a consistent morning schedule and the unique chance to become a worker-owner.
Job Summary
The ideal candidate is safety-focused, reliable, and experienced in commercial truck operation. This is a physically active role that involves both driving a 16'–26' box truck and manually handling food waste collection containers.
Compensation & Schedule
Starting Pay: $22.00 – $24.00 per hour
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 5:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Responsibilities
Vehicle Operation: Safely operate a box truck on designated urban routes to collect organic waste.
Physical Collection: Load and unload food waste containers.
Inspections: Conduct daily pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections (fluids, tires, safety equipment, etc.).
Navigation: Follow assigned routes using a routing app and maintain accurate service logs.
Professionalism: Maintain a courteous demeanor with customers and adhere to all local, state, and federal driving laws.
Maintenance: Perform basic preventative maintenance and report any mechanical issues promptly.
Qualifications
License: Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience directly related to commercial driving and route service.
Technical Skills: Familiarity with GPS systems, routing apps, and basic truck components for inspections.
Compliance: Ability to pass a background check and DOT drug screening.
Industry Knowledge: Waste management experience is preferred but not required.
Working Conditions & Physical Effort
Strenuous Activity: This position requires extensive physical activity, including lifting, pushing, or pulling objects over 100 lbs.
Environment: Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions (rain, humidity), vehicle vibration, and refuse odors.
Safety: Work involves proximity to moving mechanical parts; strict adherence to safety protocols is required.
