Job Description

The Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust is one of the nation’s leading regional foundations with assets of $360 million and an annual grant distribution of approximately $16 million in the broad program areas of medical and scientific research, education, libraries, and youth development. At this time, the Trust is seeking candidates for the recently created role of PROGRAM OFFICER in the area of science and biomedicine. With offices located in the newly remodeled, contemporary headquarters in Muscatine, Iowa, this position is a professional role and assumes multiple duties to facilitate the grant-making process of the Trust.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The incumbent will support program research and development, with special attention to follow-up monitoring and assessment of funded initiatives. Managing grant-related correspondence and evaluative data will form a significant part of this role, along with investigating and assessing grant proposals and establishing relationships with grantees and prospective applicants. The position is not remote in nature and requires on-site presence at the Trust’s offices in Muscatine, Iowa.

QUALIFICATIONS: A graduate degree in the natural sciences, preferably with an emphasis in biology or chemistry, is required. Highly developed writing skills, a facility to communicate with clarity, a discerning, critical and analytical mind, a willingness to expand one’s knowledge base, and a capacity to function within a collaborative environment are essential. Familiarity with the academic scientific research environment and grant-seeking processes would be beneficial. Additional prerequisites include a strong attention to detail, as well as the ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.

COMPENSATION: The starting salary for this position will generally fall within the range of $90-$110K, based on the candidate's credentials and relevant work experience. A comprehensive benefits package is also provided.
