Are you an experienced lawyer with business acumen? If you love advising and advocating for business owners, and you've got a useful combination of legal and business experience, we're ready to provide you with the tools to write the next chapter of your life and career. Our small but growing law firm is committed to assisting small businesses and entrepreneurs, and we are looking for an attorney who gets it. Most technically competent lawyers can draft a decent contract for a client and send it out for signature. The type of lawyer that we're looking for is able to give practical advice to the client about what provisions should be in those contracts and explain those provisions to the client in a way the client understands. For some reason, lawyers have fallen into the trap of acting like their clients have a law degree and they assume the clients understand what they're reading, or they fall into the trap of assuming that all of their clients have an MBA and really know how to run a business confidently. The reality is that's usually not the case. Most small business owners are so busy and distracted that they want us to handle the details and provide good advice to them. Good advice is not limited to the legal solution. The best advice actually typically comes with a little bit of street smarts. Because we take this approach to client service, we're one of the most successful law firms around. We're consistently ranked as one of the fastest-growing law firms in the country. Our employees have provided the data to allow us to be certified as a Great Place to Work. Our clients are human beings who are self-employed or own a small business. When we solve their problems, we are solving very personal problems, even though they arise in the business. So if you're ready to take your skills and expertise make a good living, have a life outside of the office, and see your impact in the community, let's get this process started. We have aggressive growth goals for 2024. We intend to expand both geographically and with our practice areas. In order to do this, we need to hire and build a team of excellent lawyers with real-world experience. This type of experience includes but is not limited to the following: • Running your own law firm for a period of time and knowing what it's like to have to make payroll and collect money from clients. • Having a side hustle or some revenue-generating activity outside of the practice of law. • Growing up in a family that was self-employed and understands the struggles and difficulties they're in. • A thirst for knowledge that includes nerding out on Harvard Business Review articles, Entrepreneur magazine articles, and empathizing with Carm on the show The Bear. This is the type of position that the more value that you provide to our clients, the more we can charge for those services, and the more money that you will make. We are not the type of law firm that cranks out billable hours just for the sake of hitting a number. Rather we focus on outstanding client service; the revenue comes as a result of that. We're the type of law firm that understands that lawyers are not at their best when they're working 60, 70, or 80-hour weeks, every single week. Chances are, you do a better job for your clients when you actually get to see your kids on a Saturday, rather than hanging out with the rest of the legal team at the firm. Substitute kids for workout partners, friends from your other hobbies, or your family in that preceding sentence if you're not sure how it would apply to you. If you're interested in hearing more, we have a really fun recruiting process. After we've reviewed your resume, if we think you have the experience we're looking for, the next step will be a short survey where we guarantee you will learn something about yourself. We're in no rush to make a hire, as we have a very strong team in place right now. However, for the right candidates or candidates, we will be able to build around you to support you to make sure that you can do the best job for the clients by continuing to work in your zone of genius Responsibilities: • Advising clients on the best steps for structuring their new business, the documents they will need, and even less-lawyerish things like making sure they know how to open a bank account • Reviewing contracts for clients, often bad ones downloaded from the internet, and explaining to the client why you need to rewrite it, in a way that doesn't make the client feel foolish • Teaching clients the importance of following corporate formalities, the benefits of good bookkeeping, and the types of provisions they should look out for in an insurance policy • Delicately reassuring clients as their businesses collapse, business partners steal from them, and the bank account balance is dwindling Qualifications: • Minimum 5 years of legal experience • Ability to track time and make billing entries in a way that conveys value to the client • Willingness to Figure it Out when a client asks for help with something you haven't seen before Compensation: $85,000 - $125,000
