Position Overview: Under the supervision of the Director Expanded Learning, this position directs and manages overall daily operations at assigned Expanded Learning Clubs with the primary concern for a safe, comprehensive, outcome-driven program and service delivery, supervision and training of staff (direct and indirect reports), facilities management, community relations, reporting, evaluation, and membership administration. The Area Director is a member of the organization’s Program Leadership team.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership – Provide effective Leadership and Direction to Program Staff and Club Members. Serve as a member of the Program Leadership team, sharing accountability for success with other Area Directors. Hire, train, supervise, coach & evaluate all related Program Directors and program staff. Maintain a supportive, energetic, and effective team of middle managers and program support staff. Lead/facilitate site-based meetings with Principals or other stakeholders at least quarterly. Provide professional development, training and support for expanded learning program staff in collaboration with the Director of Expanded Learning and Workforce Development. Support with parent grievances with a conflict resolution mindset and a client first attitude.
Program – Design, develop and oversee implementation of all assigned school-based Club programs.
Observe and provide feedback using a rubric on the academic & enrichment services on site in all core program areas, both those designed by Boys & Girls Clubs of America and developed locally. Core Areas include Health & Life Skills; Character & Leadership; Sports, Fitness & Recreation; The Arts and Academic Success.
Coordinate Club-wide program design, curriculum and delivery using a quarterly rotation. Coordinates the development and implementation of high-quality enrichment activities to enhance student learning in EXL spaces.
Assist with the operational aspects of implementation of grant-funded expanded learning programs to ensure that program goals are achieved, necessary parties are mobilized, and efforts of all personnel involved in the programs are coordinated
Provide direct service in absence of Program Director or when there is a shortage of program Youth Development Professionals.
Ensure program initiatives continually advance the impact on Club youth.
Support the planning and implementation of Intersession Day camps and summer camps.
Maintains current knowledge of related afterschool grant compliance standards in order to assist in promoting school and community understanding of after-school programs; attends meetings and in-service training as required
Planning – Using our BGCA formula for impact model, develop an annual program plan with tangible, measured goals consistent with overall Club defined program goals and objectives.
Adapt Club programs to meet community needs on a continual basis.
Participate in organization-wide planning efforts as a member of the Strategic Planning Committee.
Guide planning and coordination of expanded learning programs with partners, other participating agencies, district curriculum leadership, administrators, teacher leaders, teachers and/or other appropriate staff
Reporting & Evaluation – Ensure all reporting requirements are met on deadline for each Club location. Report findings to Director Expanded Learning on an on-going basis, benchmarks of which are established by Director, Expanded Learning.
Manage appropriate sections of Club's annual report to Boys & Girls Clubs of America and After School Education and Safety (ASES) and Expanded Learning Opportunity (ELOP) program-related reporting quarterly.
Supports the implementation of the Club’s school-based programs with the CQI process.
Knowledge of the YPQA is preferred but not required.
Finance – Oversee all supply expenditures. Oversight of budgetary compliance.
Marketing –Support PD’s in marketing Club programs to all potential members and their parents through recruiting events, flyers, and newsletters on a continual basis.
Community Relations – Develop high awareness of Club programs in the community including school principals and teachers, provider committees, and parent associations. Act as primary community liaison with regard to Club services. Maintain excellent relations with primary Club partners.
Safety Officer – Develop and oversee Club safety program, ensuring Club environment is safe for members, staff and volunteers. Supports Program Directors in ensuring they have practiced safety drills that are aligned with the school day process and procedures.
Registration – Supports PD’s with the registration process for all programs. Ensure assigned Clubs meet all attendance goals and that membership guidelines are followed, including that all youth carry their card daily or wear BGCSL Club t-shirts.

At least 4 years of experience working with youth in an organized setting, and experience in staff development, supervision, and training
A commitment to providing young people with the highest-quality youth development experience
Four-year degree in related field from an accredited college or university, A minimum of three years management experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people
Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
Must pass LiveScan & criminal background check and fingerprinting, and TB Test. First Aid and CPR certification
Demonstrated organizational, staff and project management abilities
Ability to work effectively with students and others of diverse ethnic, racial, cultural, educational and economic backgrounds.
Must provide your own vehicle, have a valid state driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.
Ability to manage and supervise multiple school site based programs
