Youth Development Professional
The part-time Youth Development Professional position requires one to be creative, professional and serious about providing meaningful after-school opportunities for youth. The position requires a person who is dedicated to nurturing the whole development of youth. They are passionate about youth development and committed to promoting growth and change in under-served communities. They will be flexible, take initiative, be punctual and able to make a commitment to work throughout the entire school year, during after school hours.
Under the supervision of the Program Director, Youth Development Professionals are responsible for developing and facilitating recreation, enrichment, and academically rooted activities, as well as strengthening the program’s connection with students, families and school day staff. Youth Development Professionals will be responsible for oversight and management of groups of up to 25 students. Youth Development Professionals build and maintain strong and productive relationships with and among students, school staff, parents, the BGCSL, and members of the San Leandro community. They should be adept at working in a fast paced environment and thinking fast on their feet.
Location: Please note we serve multiple school site locations in the San Leandro/San Lorenzo area. We offer programming for elementary (k-5th), middle school (6th-8th), and high school (9th-12th) students.
Time Commitment: Part-Time, Monday-Friday 1:00pm-6:00pm, 25 hours per week
Minimum Qualifications Required
At Least 21 years of Age for the middle school programs, at least 18 years of age for the elementary school programs
At Least 48 units, AA degree, or pass the ACOE Instructional Aid exam (Para-educator Exam)
Must be highly motivated to provide quality After School opportunities to youth
Must be a team player
Proven ability to work with people from a variety of different ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual and generational backgrounds
Background/Fingerprint/TB Clearance
Must be an effective communicator
Must be comfortable leading physical activities with groups of 15-25 youth
Current CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)
Desired Qualifications
Experience working or volunteering with youth
Experience teaching specific content area(s) preferred
Programming Responsibilities:
Support the creation of and then execute lesson plans
Support all scenarios defined by school
Engage and connect with teachers, principals, staff, and students
Create safe spaces for all to display social and emotional challenges
