    Job / Task Description

    SARCOR is seeking a highly motivated professional civil and transportation engineer for employment in the Birmingham, AL office. The appropriately qualified applicant must be a problem solver, have 10+ years of civil design experience, and be able to demonstrate prior experience in Civil Engineering and Roadway Design with limited or no supervision. The ideal candidate will work to develop other employees within their team so that they can be promoted quickly within the Company. The position provides the opportunity to support design efforts for exciting and challenging transportation projects involving highways, airports/aviation design support services, complete streets multimodal designs, subdivision design, commercial and public civil site and infrastructure design services, and other civil-related projects. You will likely not get bored with your work because we offer a variety of projects, clients, and exciting challenges.

    Salary $90,000 - $120,000 total compensation

    • Responsible for the quality of your civil engineering work performed. • Assist with the selling of services of SARCOR as Senior Civil Engineer. • Directs and coordinates your design activities with the team. • Performs work with the preparation of transportation design using local (State, County, or City) or AASHTO standards at both conceptual and final design levels. • Typical duties are likely to include the following: Coordination with all complimentary disciplines (roadway, drainage, structural, traffic, public involvement, and environmental), technical preparation, and supervision of roadway and planning design tasks, performing plan quality reviews, and participation in value engineering studies. • Full managerial responsibility for all aspects of the project; scope, schedule, design, quality, staff, etc. • Supervises the design and ongoing progress of a project, including the coordination of the project with City, State, and County officials, and other outside agencies. • Reviews plans, and prepares or reviews technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates. • Assures that the project team complies with the contract agreement as well as exercises rigid cost control to implement the approved design within established budget restraints. • Assist with client billing packages in the project management and accounting software that includes an updated PMP, progress report, and backup that are to be submitted with the invoice. • Support efforts for proposals for new contracts, lead procurement, negotiation, and staff/resource utilization. • Maintain positive relationships with current, past, and future clients • Maintain accurate timekeeping and notation of work performed. • Represents SARCOR at meetings, presentations, and public hearings relative to assigned projects when your schedule permits • Maintain exceptional customer service. • Demonstrate good judgment and ethical behavior. • Maintain above-average written, verbal communication, and organizational skills. • Maintain a professional character. • Be flexible with assigned work duties. • Take initiative and be proactive in learning new skill sets. • Maintain a valid driver's license, automobile insurance, and an excellent driving record. • Other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering • Maintain licensing as a professional engineer • Expert experience with design software tools such as MicroStation/OpenRoads and AutoCAD Civil 3D and capable of training less experienced staff as required • Experience working operations with ALDOT, counties, and municipalities within the Metro Birmingham region • Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks independently • Ability to efficiently work on multiple designs of civil/transportation engineering projects at a time, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget • Working knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project, and other MS Office products • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills • Valid driver's license required • Must have your own source of reliable transportation for work travel • Ability to sit or stand for long hours • Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted

    Preferred Qualifications: • Proposal writing and contracting requirements with the Federal Government • Proficiency with Factor Project Management Software • Proficiency with Microsoft Power BI • Alabama licensed professional engineer
