    POSITION SUMMARY:  The primary function of the dispatch department is to maintain organized efficient routes that will ensure the safe and efficient operation of all Drivers while in revenue service.  Dispatchers provide customer service by assisting the drivers to get our passengers on time and give them the most direct trip possible. A major challenge for this position is remaining flexible to ensure that performance goals are met in spite of operational challenges such as: vehicle shortages, staffing levels, and inclement weather conditions.  ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Communicates information and instructions to drivers via mobile units (e.g., schedules, route changes, road conditions, accidents, emergencies, etc.) for the purpose of advising drivers on a variety of situations that may impact scheduled transportation services; Drives efficiency by ensuring efficient routing of trips.     Ensures driver adherence to schedules Dispatches drivers (and aids when required) for the purposes of meeting transportation requirements; Coordinates scheduling of vehicles for the purposes of meeting overall transportation requirements; Develops schedules (e.g., routes, workload, special trips, training) for the purpose of determining driver and equipment requirements; Resolves transportation scheduling problems (e.g., driver absenteeism, out-of service vehicles, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring all routes are covered in a safe and efficient manner; Responds to vehicle/other emergencies for the purpose of making recommendations and/or referral for resolution; KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS: Daily on-time performance (as indicated by internal goals and external contractual goals), Daily productivity (trips per hour). Ability to follow the department Standard Operating Procedures (e.g. missed trips). Attendance. Ability to multi-task as indicated by number of late trips, updating of routes, and communication with co-workers. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to multi-task Problem solving skills – ability to priority the most important situation and think quickly on the feet. Ability to schedule a significant number of activities; gather, collate and or analyze data;  Problem solving with data High level of computer competency (Excel/Word ) Familiarization with dispatch and scheduling systems  Supervisory experience Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) Some college preferred (2 years min) SPECIFIC TECH/JOB RELATED SKILLS: Previous dispatch experience preferred. Physical Demands:  Sitting for extended periods of time at a desk operating a computer, phone, and two-way radio.  Excellent manual dexterity and fine motor skills.  Normal color vision in addition to good close-up vision either normal or corrected.  Visual acuity should be at a level where working on the computer will not inhibit vision. Work Environment:  Employee is required to work in an office setting in a cubicle where there is constant communication with co-workers.
