    JOB SUMMARY

    The SCS Engineers development team designs, builds, and maintains mission critical software used for environmental engineering and sensitive site management. The Database Administrator will drive improvements to software products, working individually or as part of a team, to ensure user experience excellence.  They will engage in all aspects of database design, security, integrity, usage and optimization.  Manage data assets with respect to storage, back-ups, and fail-overs.  Secure and manage real-time data streams with respect to performance. Research, test, and propose creative and innovative solutions to enhance customer’s experience with our products and services.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Participate in the design, construction, and maintenance of the company’s software products (advisory role, data modeling, SQL coding, SQL code reviews).
    • Participate in the design, construction, and maintenance using the latest industry standard techniques to optimize the customer (i.e., user) experience.
    • Lead the management of current storage assets and participate in capacity planning (i.e., forecasting).
    • Perform or assist in ETL operations (data extraction, transformation, and loading) as needed.
    • Maintain knowledge of best practices and emerging technologies (e.g., data analytics, data warehouse, and virtualization) as needed.
    • Participate in scheduled DR testing as necessary.
    • Participate in code deployments as necessary.
    • Install and maintain the performance of database servers.
    • Develop processes for optimizing database security.
    • Set and maintain database standards.
    • Manage database access.
    • Performance tuning of database systems.
    • Install, upgrade, and manage database applications.
    • Diagnose and troubleshoot database errors.
    • Recommend and implement emerging database technologies.
    • Create and manage database reports, visualizations, and dashboards.
    • Create automation for repeating database tasks, scheduled jobs, etc.
    • Evaluate new technologies from third party providers.
    • Recommend changes for versioning.
    • Maintain and configure replicated database for disaster recovery.
    • Suggest technologies for controlling, managing, and optimizing large sets of data.

    OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
    • Be available for on-call support as needed.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    • Expert knowledge of MS SQL Server.
    • Expert in data optimization techniques (e.g., partitioning, compression).
    • Experience working with Amazon AWS and looking at technologies related to database.
    • Built-out OLAP and other tools for data mining.
    • Proven working experience as a Database Administrator.
    • Hands-on experience with database standards and end user applications.
    • Excellent knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, integrity and SQL.
    • Familiarity with database design, documentation and coding.
    • Previous experience with DBA case tools (frontend/backend) and third party tools.
    • Familiarity with programming languages API.
    • Problem solving skills and ability to think algorithmically.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree in a computer discipline required.
    • Minimum of 8 years’ relevant database administrator experience required.
    • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant database developer experience required.
    • Expert knowledge of SQL required.
    • Microsoft Certifications are desired but not required.
