The SCS Engineers RMC team designs, builds, installs, and maintains mission-critical hardware and software systems for remote environmental monitoring and sensitive site management. As a Support Specialist, you will work individually and as a part of a team to keep RMC’s systems operating as they were designed. As a part of the SCS RMC team, you will work together with your SCS RMC teammates for the good of the overall team.
This position can be based out of any SCS office or be remote; Lancaster, PA, or Huntington Beach, CA offices are preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide quality, professional, consistent, organized, documented, thorough, and timely technical support to SCS RMC team members and our clients.
- Assume responsibility for all SCS RMC system issues as they arise, identify a solution to them, troubleshoot, communicate and document the issue and solution, repair the issue, and communicate and document the repair performed. Technical issues generally include:
- Loss of communications (e.g., internet, Ethernet, radios, fiber-optic, etc.)
- Power loss
- Equipment failure (e.g., PLC, HMI, Industrial PC, modem, radio, sensor, etc.)
- Programming issues on PLCs, HMIs, media converters, data recorders, edge devices, and Ignition SCADA software
- Interact with SCS RMC Network Engineers and other SCS RMC team members to ensure that all SCS RMC system issues are repaired promptly.
- Effectively communicate and document all repairs performed. This process would generally include:
- Track resolution of issues in project management software
- Write clear, concise, and courteous correspondence documenting task status and resolution of help requests
- Project records filing
- Develop, maintain, and implement procedures related to SCS’ Quality Management System and related QA/QC activities
- Apply updates to SCS RMC system equipment (e.g., Windows updates, software updates, etc.)
- Add and remove users from SCS RMC systems as needed.
- Make changes/updates to SCS RMC software as needed (e.g., network settings, etc.)
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- SCS RMC system setup
- Write SCS RMC system manuals and user instructions.
- Assist with training of customers using web-based and in-person training formats.
- Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Proven ability to remotely troubleshoot system malfunctions and fix and/or guide repairs.
- Work to proactively identify and repair small issues before they become larger problems.
- Possess the drive to learn and stay up-to-date on technological developments in the industry.
- Ability to seek guidance and learn from team members.
- Knowledge and experience working with the following equipment are desired:
- Inductive Automation Ignition - Perspective module experience a big plus
- PLCs
- Automation Direct Productivity series, DL series
- Allen Bradley
- GE Fanuc
- HMIs
- Basic networking
- Radios: Ethernet and serial
- Cellular modems
- Microsoft Windows 10
- Ability and desire to work simultaneously on multiple projects/tasks and carry them through to completion with limited loss of efficiency and composure.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to collaborate and work effectively with other co-workers, departments, or business units.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with the SCS RMC team and our client.
- Excellent attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills and creative thinking skills.
- Ability to consistently perform efficiently in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
- Ability to travel up to 10%.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 3 years of experience troubleshooting control systems, RTUs, and SCADA systems as a technician, controls specialist, system integrator, or engineer required.
- Experience installing, commissioning, and troubleshooting control panels, sensors, conduit, and wiring in the field (preferably outdoor locations) preferred.
- Registered integrator of Inductive Automation Ignition software preferred.
- Experience with networking, cellular modems, and radios preferred.
- Experience working on landfills highly preferred.
- Experience with Health and Safety Oriented work preferred.
- A valid driver’s license with a good driving record is required.
- Must meet physical requirements for driving (pick-up truck), walking inspection of improved and unimproved property, lifting and carrying equipment/mechanical components (up to 20 lbs. unassisted), carrying and climbing ladders, operating and working from man lifts, operating electric tools (drills, saws, etc.), using hand tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, hammers, etc.) and providing services under varying weather conditions.
