    Environmental Laboratory Technical Lead - Organics and Metals Portsmouth, VA

     

    Environmental Technical Lead needed for Portsmouth, VA environmental lab firm.

    24 semester hours (minimum) of College Chemistry and BS degree, Certified transcript will be required. 5 years experience with GC/FID or GC/ECD or GC/MS, AND ICP-OES or ICP-MS required.

     

    Position Summary

    • Supervise and/or perform physical and chemical testing of environmental samples including volatile organics and heavy metals
    • Adheres to all federal, state, and internal quality assurance programs
    • Maintains legally defensible laboratory documentation and analytical results

       

      Job Description

    • Operate various equipment and complex instrumentation in a safe manner
    • Perform sample preparation, digestion, or extraction according to standard operating procedures and EPA Methods: 8270, 8260, 8081, 8082, 8015 and others
    • Reviews and validates results to method requirements and all quality control standards
    • Performs lab administrative duties, such as receiving samples from internal and external clients, maintaining chain of custody, generating data reports, and maintaining lab supplies & inventory.
    • Experience with a LIMS system, sample receipt and analysis.
    • Familiarity with AIHA and or ELAP audit requirements a plus.

     

    Culture & Work Since 1986, our clients have included federal, state, and local governmental agencies, the Department of Defense, US Naval and Coast Guard shipbuilding contractors, various manufacturing firms and environmental remediation companies. Our laboratories provide analytical testing for major companies such as BAE Systems and Huntington Ingalls Shipbuilding among others. We test soil, water and air matrices for asbestos, metal, inorganic and organic contamination.

     

    Qualification

    • Required: Bachelor degree in chemistry (or related science) with 24 college semester credit hours and 5 yr applicable work experience
    • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite, effective written & oral communications, work independently, have critical thinking & problem-solving skills.
