    The Braille Institute is seeking an Operations Specialist at their Los Angeles, CA (90029) location.

    Who is Braille Institute?

    Braille Institute is a non-profit organization whose mission is to positively transform the lives of those with vision loss. We offer a broad range of free programs, classes and services serving thousands of students of all ages helping to demonstrate that vision rehabilitation is a beginning, not an end.

    We serve the community from seven centers, and hundreds of community outreach locations throughout Southern California, and lead popular national programs like Braille Challenge and Cane Quest. Our staff and volunteers understand losing your vision can be scary, but we believe it is not the end of independence but a new way of living.

    About the role:

    The Operations Specialist is responsible for the production of department projects from logistics through printing, shipment and delivery of finished product. Works with supervisor to ensure high-quality and timely projects and materials.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Produces print and embossed materials according to schedule provided by supervisor. Maximizes production capacity and efficiency by communicating equipment status and progress of assignments to supervisor.
    • Coordinates shipment of program materials.
      Assists with the tracking of department projects by organizing, monitoring inventory and equipment condition. Helps to assure that equipment is properly maintained.
    • Assists supervisor in communicating with external contractors.
    • Assists with data entry, including inputting and updating student information.
    • Ability to work on feet for 8 hours and carry loads up to 40 pounds.
    • Ability to work independently and safely.
    • Performs other duties as assigned. As the organization continues to evolve, duties or tasks may change without impacting the overall Job Description.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Knowledge and Education:

    • Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
    • Shipping and receiving knowledge is beneficial.

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Position requires good organizational, computer, communication, and time management skills.
    • Experience with Microsoft Office products (such as Word and Excel).

    Experience:

    • At least one year of experience in production or shipping is preferred, but not required.
    • Experience utilizing equipment/machinery for braille needs is desirable though previous UEB or experience with braille not required.
    • Curiosity and the ability to learn quickly is ideal as all necessary training will be provided.

    Certifications/licenses: Valid Driver’s license.

    Work Environment:

    • Position works in a standard office environment.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Position operates standard office equipment.
