    The Braille Institute is seeking a Child Development Consultant in San Bernardino County, CA.

    Who is Braille Institute?

    Braille Institute is a non-profit organization whose mission is to positively transform the lives of those with vision loss. We offer a broad range of free programs, classes and services serving thousands of students of all ages helping to demonstrate that vision rehabilitation is a beginning, not an end.

    We serve the community from seven centers, and hundreds of community outreach locations throughout Southern California, and lead popular national programs like Braille Challenge and Cane Quest. Our staff and volunteers understand losing your vision can be scary, but we believe it is not the end of independence but a new way of living.

    About the role:

    We are currently seeking a Child Development Consultant that will provide services in San Bernardino County. This position is responsible for:

    • Providing in-home and community play-based visits with children and families/caregivers.
    • Educating families in understanding child’s vision diagnosis and providing suggestions to assist with modifying activities and environments to help support the development of the child;
    • Use standardized assessment tools to monitor development;
    • Prepare families for educational planning meetings, attend IFSP and IEP meetings;
    • Attend medical appointments with families;
    • Collaborate with other professionals, maintain positive business relationships with outside agencies;
    • Support families by providing community resources and referrals related to childhood vision loss, development and education;
    • Conduct research, prepare monthly reports on client progress, attend staff and community meetings;
    • Maintain current knowledge of early childhood best practices;
    • Current knowledge of early childhood education for the visually impaired.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education or related field or equivalent required;
    • At least three (3) years of experience working with families and children in early childhood intervention/special education;
    • Experience working with visual impairment both in-home and school settings, using assessment tools;
    • Excellent computer skills utilizing MS Office and newer technology such as iPad and learning apps;
    • Position requires excellent communication, time management, and facilitation skills;
    • The ability to work independently out in the field and represent the organization while meeting the needs of children and families;
    • CPR & First Aid certified preferred;
    • Valid drivers license with a clean driving record required;
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
