    The Braille Institute is seeking an Operations Coordinator at their Los Angeles, CA (90029) location.

    Who is Braille Institute?

    Braille Institute is a non-profit organization whose mission is to positively transform the lives of those with vision loss. We offer a broad range of free programs, classes and services serving thousands of students of all ages helping to demonstrate that vision rehabilitation is a beginning, not an end.

    We serve the community from seven centers, and hundreds of community outreach locations throughout Southern California, and lead popular national programs like Braille Challenge and Cane Quest. Our staff and volunteers understand losing your vision can be scary, but we believe it is not the end of independence but a new way of living.

    About the role:

    Job Summary: Responsible for supervising department projects, including assisting with project management, production through delivery of braille materials, and organization and logistics of National Programs events.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Oversees select department projects.
    • Monitors project progress and sets deadlines.
    • Determines and communicates production duties and priorities.
    • Monitors project schedules to maximize efficiency.
    • Responsible for creating weekly and monthly department workplans to track upcoming program deliverables.
    • Works with department heads to stay current on departmental needs and goals.
    • Oversees quality control of projects.
    • Troubleshoots problems and ensures deadlines are met.
    • Supports and oversees data entry, including inputting, updating, and verifying accuracy.
    • Develops quarterly and monthly reports that outline inventory needs and programs.
    • Takes initiative to identify trends and patterns to help move programs forward.
    • Determines and communicates work assignments to operations staff.
    • Receive department packages and ensure they are processed into inventory, while updating relevant parties accordingly.
    • Works with Administrative Assistant to order product materials and printing supplies.
    • Responsible for communication between internal and external teams.
    • Assigns projects to external contractors, such as program developers and graphic designers.
    • Oversees and assures timely completion of projects with external contractors.
    • Evaluates equipment needs for current and future projects while ensuring equipment is properly maintained.
    • Supports with interdepartmental and organizational projects.
    • Performs other duties as assigned. As the organization continues to evolve, duties or tasks may change without impacting the overall Job Description.

    • Braille Transcribers (external contractors)

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Knowledge and Education:

    • Position requires an AA Degree or a high school diploma and five years of relevant experience.

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Must be comfortable with Microsoft Office products (such as Word and Excel).
    • Position requires good project management, organizational, computer, communication, time management and leadership skills.
    • The ability to prioritize projects and meet deadlines is essential.
    • Experience utilizing equipment/machinery for braille needs is desirable though previous UEB or experience with braille not required.
    • Curiosity and the ability to learn quickly is ideal as all necessary training will be provided.

    Experience: At least three years of program, operations or project management experience. Some supervisory experience is preferable.

    Certifications/licenses: Valid Driver’s license.

    Work Environment: Position works in a standard office environment.

    Physical Requirements: Position operates standard office equipment.
