Health Educator – Peak of Season Specialty Crop Nutrition Education and Culinary Program
Job Description
_ Position Summary_
SEE-LA is currently seeking a dynamic individual to support in the teaching of food and nutrition education classes for its Peak of Season Specialty Crop Nutrition Education and Culinary Program. SEE-LA has contracted with the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) to provide the Peak of Season Specialty Crop Nutrition Education and Culinary Program. The program provides youth, adults, and caregivers with culturally relevant specialty crop education showcasing California’s seasonal variety and specialty crop growers, focusing on underserved communities and Title I schools located within proximity to our SEE-LA farmers’ markets. The Health Educator will be responsible for the implementation of hands-on teaching of nutrition and culinary classes as well as assist with other primary goals within the program’s scope of work such as participation in events, program outreach, data collection and input, and program evaluation measures. Annually, the Health Educator team will instruct up to 125 bilingual (English/ Spanish) children, adult, and caregiver classes and support in the preparation and delivery of specialty crop and recipe samples to participating schools.
The Peak of Season Specialty Crop Nutrition Education and Culinary Program is a grant-funded position and as such is time-limited and funded through the end of December 2025. However, SEE-LA continues to seek and identify ongoing funding sources to support programming within the Nutrition Department. Continuation of the position is contingent upon securing additional funding. The position is hybrid telecommuting: educators are expected to split their time between their home office, SEE-LA’s main office, and classes based at partner schools, SEE-LA’s farmers market, and other community sites across Los Angeles County.
The ideal candidate is flexible, a fast learner, thrives in a fast-paced and structured environment, enjoys teaching varied audiences, and is passionate about nutrition education and the promotion of local California farmers.
