  • Responsibilities

    SUMMARY: The Business Consultant’s role in fostering relationships between the workforce development program and local employers. Staff, whether at central or at career offices, will act as Workforce Solutions’ sales force arm, marketing services to area employers and ensuring that services we promise to an employer are delivered. This position focuses on creating and maintaining partnerships with businesses to facilitate employment opportunities for job seekers. The representative serves as a bridge between job seekers and employers, ensuring a seamless connection between workforce resources and the needs of the business community.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Adheres to the mission of SERCO.

    • Manage geographic territories to build and maintain relationships with new and existing employers, economic development organizations, chambers of commerce, and associations to facilitate new job growth opportunities;

    • Specialize in building relationships with key regional industries targeted by the Gulf Coast Workforce Board and will work with targeted industry sectors to provide customized data and solutions to fill the skills gap shortage of workers experienced by some regional employers.

    • Provide human resource advice and consultations to employers;

    • Introduce new employers to our workforce system while maintaining a rapport with existing ones;

    • Host educational seminars, posting open positions in our Work In Texas system, hosting hiring events and customized training, and facilitating interview space for employers or delivering specialized training.

    • Market and deliver Workforce Solution services to new and repeat businesses and conducting follow up to assure customer satisfaction.

    • Provide services for layoff aversion or outplacement.

    • Employer Outreach and Engagement: Proactively identify and engage with local employers to understand their workforce needs, hiring preferences, and skill requirements.

    • Partnership Development: Build and cultivate relationships with employers, industry associations, chambers of commerce, and economic development organizations to establish mutually beneficial partnerships.

    • Customized Recruitment Strategies: Collaborate with employers to design and implement customized recruitment strategies that align with their hiring needs. Provide guidance on job descriptions, qualifications, and skill requirements.

    • Job Matching: Analyze the skills and qualifications of job seekers to match them with suitable job openings offered by employers. Provide insights to both job seekers and employers to enhance the quality of matches.

    • Job Fairs and Hiring Events: Organize, promote, and participate in job fairs, hiring events, and networking sessions to connect employers directly with potential candidates.

    • Workforce Training: Collaborate with employers to identify training needs and facilitate partnerships with training providers to offer relevant skill development programs.

    • Labor Market Insights: Stay informed about local labor market trends, industry growth, and workforce demands to inform employer engagement strategies.

    • Follow-Up and Feedback: Maintain ongoing communication with employers to gather feedback on the effectiveness of placements and to address any concerns or challenges.

    • Employer Services Promotion: Educate employers about the range of services offered by the workforce development program, such as tax incentives, on-the-job training programs, and supportive services.

    • Data Collection and Reporting: Collect and maintain accurate data on employer engagements, placements, and outcomes. Generate regular reports to track the success of employer engagement efforts.

    • Collaboration: Collaborate with the job development team, case managers, and career advisors to ensure a seamless transition for job seekers from initial engagement to successful employment.

    • Community Networking: Represent the workforce development program at community events, business meetings, and forums to enhance the program's visibility and credibility

    • Data Integrity and Documentation:

      • Ensure accurate and up-to-date information is entered into the WorkInTexas.com database for both employers and candidates.
      • Maintain detailed records of employer interactions, services provided, and outcomes achieved.
      • Driving a commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction across all levels of the organization
    • Promotes the use of the full range of Texas workforce system services and facilities

    • Identifies the specific employment needs of individual employers, and providing the appropriate solutions available through the Texas workforce system

    • Provides recruitment and placement assistance

    • Obtains and maintains current information from local employers concerning the following:

      • Labor needs
      • Employment and training opportunities
      • Other information to use in providing services to employers and job seekers
    • Other duties as assigned

    SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

    • Demonstrated experience in sales, business development, or relationship management.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with employers and job seekers.
    • Knowledge of local industries, labor market trends, and workforce development programs.
    • Ability to analyze employer needs and effectively match them with suitable candidates.
    • Proficiency in using CRM software, databases, and Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for local travel.
    • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are a plus.

    Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Human Resources, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
    • Alternative requirements are a minimum of 60 hours from an accredited college or University and 3 years of relevant experience or graduation from high School/GED and 5 years relevant experience

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must possess and provide a valid Texas Driver's License and Automobile Liability Insurance as required by the State of Texas.
    • Must have access to reliable transportation in order to make required site visits or trainings

    • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing duties of the job, employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; for long periods of time. Employee must be able to drive for extended periods of time. Employees must occasionally lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, must be able to set up display area.
    • WORK ENVIRONMENT : Fast paced, demanding physically and mentally, will be in constant communications.
