    Position Purpose:

    Responsible for performing a variety of routine analyses and screening of organic and inorganic substances to determine make up of hazardous waste and appropriate stabilization according to quality assurance and control procedures. Maintains the laboratory and equipment in compliance with regulatory and site specifications.

    Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Performs a variety of fingerprint screens, and other wet and organic chemistry methodologies to determine the nature of hazardous substance.
    • Samples incoming bulk loads to establish the nature of contents and determines packaging and appropriate disposal of samples according to prescribed procedures.
    • Assists facility personnel with approval paperwork to ascertain accuracy and enhance efficiency and effectiveness in the disposal of hazardous waste materials.
    • Maintenance of analytical equipment and documents in accordance with quality assurance and control compliance.
    • Gather appropriate paperwork for management approvals and notifies staff of any incomplete sections needing attention. Assists in compiling and reporting of analysis date including QA/QC data for review by staff.
    • Perform periodic audits of analytical logs to ensure regulatory compliance for completeness and accuracy.
    • Perform other laboratory analysis as requested.
    • Comply with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies in the disposal of hazardous waste materials.
    • Other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Education/Experience/Background:

    • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or related discipline required.
    • 1 to 3 years experience in the hazardous waste industry or related work experience preferred.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    • Strong team player.
    • Strong customer service orientation.
    • Typing speed minimum of 30wpm.
    • Good knowledge of computer programs.

    Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

    • 24-Hour HAZWOPER Training.

    Physical Requirements:

    • The candidate is expected to continuosly stand and walk, and frequently sit.
    • Must be able to frequently twist and occasionally bend and be able to reach above the shoulder level.
    • Must have the ability to have fine finger movements and eye-hand coordination.
    • The noise level is minimal.
    • Must be able to handle hazardous material while partaking in laboratory activities, performing waste sampling and handling, as well as household hazardous waste.
    • This position works indoors on a continuous basis with occasional exposure to weather conditions.
    • The candidate must contiuously use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, apron, and a Tyvek coat. Frequently, the use of a full face respirator, a powered air purifying respirator (PAPR) or a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) is necessary. Occasionally, it is required to use a hard hat, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots.
