    JOB SUMMARY

    We are looking for a SHARP Literacy Classroom Guide

    SHARP Literacy Guides (SLGs) play a critical and integral role in the success of the SHARP Literacy program. Each SLG facilitates learning activities for students (grades K3-5th) for approximately one hour, utilizing the SHARP program materials, art images and artifacts. Additionally, SLGs must demonstrate ease in using technology as a learning tool and be capable to instruct students in basic coding skills through computer-based and hands-on interactive workshops. This part time position runs from September through May.

    PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Engage students in a manner that reflects cultural awareness, competence, and facilitates meaningful and relevant learning, building upon students’ experiences and understandings.
    • Involve students during the workshop in ways that reflect the Common Core State Standards, e.g., inquiry-based questions, active engagement, creative thinking, and experiential learning.
    • Modify/differentiate the workshop based on the needs and experiences of the SHARP students.
    • Facilitate learning for one hour utilizing the SHARP program materials. Images, artifacts, arts integration projects, and computer-based lessons will also be used to reinforce the SHARP curricular concepts. 
    • Schedule individual school workshops with all assigned teachers in a timely manner, communicating with both schools and SHARP Literacy staff as schedules are updated.
    • Attend paid professional development opportunities provided by SHARP Literacy, incorporating teaching practices learned into work with students.
    • Facilitate professional development opportunities for classroom teachers as needed
    • Facilitate student reflections and return them to SHARP Literacy in a timely manner.
    • Analyze student data and share reports with classroom teachers and SHARP Literacy throughout the learning experience.
    • Perform ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of traditional and technology-based instruction.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • An earned Bachelor’s degree in education, computer science, technology, the arts, related fields, or three or more years of successful experience teaching and/or working in an urban school setting with diverse students.
    • One or more years of successful experience teaching and/or working in an urban school setting with diverse students preferred
    • Experience in teach STEAM content to elementary students or a desire to learn.
    • Proficiency using PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, and e-mail.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Must have technology, critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.
    • Must demonstrate a high level of initiative.
    • Must have a high degree of flexibility.
    • Knowledge of the website code.org and or completion of a computer programming course, or experience with one coding language (HTML, C++, Python, PHP, etc.) is beneficial, but not a requirement.
    • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred, but not required.
