    Job Description

SIRUM IS REIMAGINING US HEALTHCARE ENABLING EVERYONE TO ACCESS AFFORDABLE MEDICATION

SIRUM drives the future of healthcare by connecting people with surplus medications. Our goal is to leverage the ~$10B of surplus that goes to waste every year to improve health equity for families who need it most. Everyone deserves the medications they need to stay healthy. We deliver on this promise by ensuring medicine prices that are low, stable, & transparent and that families' health comes before profit.

Founded at Stanford University and a Y Combinator Alumni, we're a fast-growing, non-profit, for-impact startup at the intersection of health tech + social enterprise. Our platform supplies $250,000 worth of medications to people in need every week, sourced from hundreds of medicine donors across dozens of states. Join us in building a national solution to the drug pricing epidemic that has been featured on The TED Mainstage, The New York Times, and Forbes.

    COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER

We are looking for someone with 3+ years of experience in a communications role, preferably in the social impact + start-up space. You will lead us into the next phase of our digital presence, blending data and narrative from our own program work with current events, driving our brand forward as a key voice and curator of relevant news related to medication access and affordability in the United States.

This is an opportunity to grow our content, marketing and communications strategy from the ground up, creating the processes we need to bring our mission and vision for health equity to a broader audience. You will be our first communications hire in a key role - sharing our impact and our journey as we execute upon the ambitious plan we launched at TED2020 to get nearly $1B of medicine to 1M low-income patients over the next five years as a part of The Audacious Project.

OUR FUTURE TEAMMATE WILL FOCUS THEIR IMPACT ON:

DEVELOPING CONTENT. You will serve as a content developer, working with pharmacists and nurses who package-up donations, to the clinic leads and social workers who make referrals, to telling the stories of patients who utilize our services to get access to medications they need to get and stay healthy. You will do the outreach, scheduling, interviews and write-ups to gather stories and generate narratives for virtual and in-person interviews (post-pandemic). You'll help manage vendors necessary for multiple projects including photographers, graphic designers and videographers.

LEVERING IMPACT TO INFORM AND MOBILIZE STAKEHOLDERS AND THE PUBLIC. You will blend data and narrative for SIRUM and our partners to generate clear and captivating content. You will leverage earned media, funder updates, grant reports, blog posts, one pagers, and other mediums to champion our work and its impact on health disparities. You will work with external press and public relations firms to drive a steady cadence to continuously engage audiences.

DIGITAL ENGAGEMENT. You will manage our digital presence as a whole to present a consistent tone and voice that reflects our mission, including managing our social media accounts and creating content and publishing calendars.  You will monitor, track, and report on performance metrics and SEO to better understand how we best engage with many different audiences including healthcare professionals, executives, policy makers, and the general public.

    OUR FUTURE TEAMMATE WILL BE:

    • PASSIONATE ABOUT OUR MISSION to get every pill to a person in need, our belief that we can use technology to correct this market inefficiency, and our eagerness to build a national solution.
    • AN EXCEPTIONAL WRITER AND TRUE STORYTELLER. You can easily write compelling, clear, succinct, rapid and jargon-free content for healthcare providers and the general public alike. You understand crafting narrative and merging facts and figures with real-life stories.
    • A GREAT PROJECT MANAGER. You excel at organizing yourself and others, defining project goals and outlining milestones. Then, you do it. You execute fairly independently and deliver final products on-time.
    • A SELF-STARTER AND EMBRACE CHANGE. You have some experience in start-ups, like a fast-paced environment, and enjoy the changes of an organization always striving to improve.
    • ABLE TO DO A SMALL AMOUNT OF POST-PANDEMIC TRAVEL. You'll go on site to clinics, pharmacies and other partners to capture stories, working with videographers and photographers in the field from SF Bay Area to Ohio to rural Georgia as needed (< 10%).

    WHAT WE OFFER:

    • COMPETITIVE SALARY.
    • GREAT BENEFITS. 100% premium paid medical, dental and vision, a 401K, plus 6 weeks paid time off.
    • GROUND FLOOR IMPACT. As the first communications hires, help create the foundation and shape the trajectory of an award-winning startup nonprofit.
    • HUGE SOCIAL IMPACT. You will see and feel the tangible impact of your work on a daily basis.
    • INSIDE UNDERSTANDING INTO A HIGH GROWTH STARTUP NONPROFIT. As a pivotal teammate on a small team, you will work directly with the founders, see the various aspects of how we operate, and be connected to the wider social impact sector.
    • AWESOME TEAM. We're a collaborative, passionate and driven team that also likes socially distant birthday celebrations, party games and escape rooms. And in non-COVID times, social adventures like urban putt-putt, rafting, and paddle-boarding.
