    Job Description:

    The Arizona Department of Public Safety seeks an experienced highway safety professional with prior sworn law enforcement experience to serve as a subject matter expert in impaired driving, drug recognition, and related training. The position will support curriculum development and instructional design for law enforcement training programs focused on drug- and alcohol-impaired driving, drug trends, youth drug use,

    distracted driving, fatigue, and related crash causation factors. This role requires deep experience in Drug Evaluation and Classification Program (DECP) operations, instructional delivery, and program coordination at both state and national levels.

    Essential Functions:

    Develop lesson plans and course content for ongoing DUI, drugs of abuse, impaired driving, and highway safety courses.

    Create and update curriculum materials and instructor resources.

    Design and implement hands-on practical training and assessments.

    Conduct course critiques and evaluate training effectiveness.

    Serve as a subject matter expert instructor on drug recognition and impairment.

    Collaborate with the DPS Impaired Driving Coordinator and Division Chief on impaired driver training.

    Align training with national standards and emerging trends in impairment detection.

    Provide guidance on instructional methodologies and adult learning principles.

    Support statewide agency coordination of DECP activities and instructor development.

    Produce reports, documentation, and recommendations for program enhancement
