ACCOUNTING CLERK

SMT PUERTO RICO, INC. – San Juan, Puerto Rico

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

This position is in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and requires the skills of an energetic, qualified accountant with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar position, ideally within the retail industry. This position is responsible for implementing and maintaining all the necessary accounting policies and procedures and internal controls required to ensure timely and accurate financial information. This individual must possess strong strategic/financial skills as well as the ability to lead, collaborate and mentor staff from all levels in the organization to create and maintain a corporate culture of fiscal accountability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

GENERAL ACCOUNTING REQUIREMENTS

INVENTORY

• New item creation and maintenance
• Inventory control and cycle counts
• Supervision of Inventory data entry
• Inventory adjustment and receipts

PURCHASE ORDERS

• Purchase order entry and maintenance
• Receipt of goods entry
• Freight, discount and landed cost calculations
• Supervision of Purchase entry and receipts

ACCOUNTS PAYABLES

• Invoice entry and maintenance
• Aging and reports
• Bill Back calculations and entry

ACCOUNT RECEIVABLE

• Intercompany Receivables
• Accounts Receivable – Wholesale Customer

POS

• Customer creation and maintenance
• Credit card reconciliations
• Daily Store Reconciliation with Bank

PAYROLL

• Payroll employee creation
• Employee Maintenance
• Tax Filings/Retention
• W2 Preparation and Filling

REPORTING

• Monthly Financial Statements
• AP Aging Reports
• Receipt of Good Entry
• Reconciliations/Maintenance

BANK RECONCILIATIONS

• Bridge Account Reconciliation
• GL Adjusting Entries
• Fixed Assets Maintenance

GOVERNMENT / TAXES

• Filling of Yearly and Quarterly Government Forms and Taxes

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum 3 Years’ experience as an Accountant / Comptroller or Accounting Manager
• The candidate must possess a professional and positive attitude.
• Strong interpersonal skills: ability to maintain a professional attitude in a sensitive environment.
• Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills; detail-oriented.
• Full-time work

COMPUTER REQUIREMENTS

• Accounting Software – Sage or equivalent ERP System
• Experience with POS Systems, NCR CounterPoint – (Not required but a plus)
• Proficient skill level in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Adaptability with learning new technologies
• Internet – Windows/Internet Explorer
• Experience with Time and Attendance System a plus

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Two (2) years of Bookkeeping experience and/or BBA in Accounting
• Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree with at least 24 semester credit hours in Accounting
• Understanding of GAAP and standard accounting methodologies

COMPENSATION

• Salary: $24,000.00 to $29,000.00 /year
