    Job Description

    JOB TITLE: JAVA APPLICATION DEVELOPER LOCATION: SACRAMENTO, CA

    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    • Provide development support in writing and updating Java language code, Java EE and distributed programming (multi-tier architecture) for online and batch application
    • Translate technical specifications and/or physical design into code for my|CalPERS enhancements and changes
    • Identify and resolve defects using the configuration management tools and processes
    • Create and modify batch jobs for the my|CalPERS application using the batch framework
    • Write Structure Query Language (SQL) and read the data models
    • Create and update web services using Java technology components
    • Create modify, and interpret XML code and documents
    • Create, modify and maintain forms
    • Create and modify JUnit scripts
    • Create and modify Java Server Pages
    • Create and modify Cognos reports for the my|CalPERS application
    • Assist Business Analysts in creating and modifying the requirements documentation
    • Participate in Joint Application Requirements (JAR) and Joint Application Development(JAD) sessions for gathering requirements and performing requirement analysis
    • Participate in test inspections throughout life cycle to identify issues and verify methodology compliance of the my|CalPERS application
    • Develop and support key business processes in support of the my|CalPERS functional domains for Benefits, Health, Financials, Contracts, Contributions and General.
    • Support implementation and deployment of production release activities
    • Peer review code for team members and provide timely feedback
    • Review and update technical documentation and provide technical documentation when no documentation exists.
    • Provide training and mentoring to CalPERS' team members to ensure continued maintenance of the application.
    • Test system application changes.
    • Develop reusable test scripts.
    • Identify and develop solutions to resolve timely emergency and/or highly complex business problems.
    • Develop and document technical solutions to resolve complex business and/or technical issues.
    • Work with team members across all functional domains to enhance MCP system focused on Java development, Application Programming Interface (API) and integration, using CalPERS approved frameworks supporting traditional waterfall and/or agile methodology delivery.
    • Work with Application and Solution Architect in planning, designing, testing, creating and implementing standards that comply with CalPERS Enterprise Architecture rules and policies.
    • Work with the Tester to support, validate, and write complex test scenarios and regression scripts related to MCP system.
    • Triage MCP system problems associated with application logic, data, performance, and infrastructure across all functional domains
    • Perform data analysis, designing, developing and testing reports in Cognos for the various disciplines within MCP system.
    • Perform qualitative and quantitative data analysis on large data sets for financial reconciliation and audit reporting.
    • Work with Data Modeling as well as Functional Domain teams to design, enhance and build efficient data models and views.
    • Update and build complex Structured Query Language (SQL) reports, data extracts and scripts.
    • Provide training and mentoring to CalPERS' team members to expand their functional knowledge, analysis skills, and technical skills sets .
