    Job Description

    SUMMARY

    Under the supervision of the Program Manager, a strong team player and people-oriented OUTREACH COORDINATOR will coordinate and implement strategic outreach and community engagement efforts to increase awareness and responsiveness of stakeholders, community leaders and residents to hate incidents and crimes.  The candidate must have the ability to build and maintain rapport with community members, community planning groups, and stakeholders.  Experience working with diverse ethnic and cultural communities is a must, including, but not limited to the following populations: people of color, gay/lesbian/ bisexual/ transgender/questioning community, monolingual and/or undocumented immigrants, substance users, and homeless persons, of varying ages.  This is a full-time position requiring flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and some holidays.  Program Name:  Stopping Hate Through Outreach, Awareness and Reporting (SOAR).

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    1.      Assist Program Manager to develop and support a collaborative Advisory Group that includes multi-sector stakeholders.

    2.      Assist in the facilitation of Advisory Group meetings.

    3.      Assist Program Manager to develop an outreach and engagement plan that identifies communities at highest risk for experiencing hate incidents/crimes, strategies to reach these communities, and key stakeholders in need of training related to hate incidents/crimes and reporting.

    4.      Identify appropriate written materials to be used for education on hate incidents/crimes, reporting, and resources for victims. 

    5.      Assist in translating identified materials using professional language service business/provider.

    6.      Assist in development of training packages for law enforcement and other stakeholders most likely to encounter victims and/or witnesses of hate incidents/crimes.

    7.      Facilitate presentations or trainings to law enforcement to build capacity and skills to implement culturally competent, trauma-informed approaches to effectively engage vulnerable victims of hate incidents/crimes.

    8.      Facilitate presentations or trainings to stakeholder groups to increase knowledge or hate incidents/crimes, encourage reporting, and build capacity to support victims.

    9.      Conduct outreach activities to promote services and recruit program participants.

    10.    Establish and maintain partnerships (public and private sectors) including but not limited to nonprofit or faith based providers, community leaders, public law enforcement, mediation entities, schools and other social justice providers.

    11.     Represent and advocate on behalf of the agency and the community at related collaborations, community planning groups, social organizations, conferences, and other events as assigned.

    12.    Other projects as assigned to meet program and agency mission, goals and objectives.

    13.    Ability to work overtime and perform duties during weekends, holiday, and evenings when required.

    14.    Regular attendance.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

    1.      Bachelor’s degree in social sciences field or related preferred.

    2.      One (1) year of experience in education, nonprofit, social justice, law enforcement or related.

    3.      Strong verbal and written skills

    4.      Experience in group facilitation or group presentations preferred.

    5.      Ability to work respectfully with diverse communities. Any direct or related experience with human relations preferred.

    6.      Bilingual in one or more languages preferred (Spanish, Asian languages, or other)

    7.      Good problem solving and conflict resolution skills.

    8.      Possession of valid CA driver’s license, valid insurance, clean driving record and reliable transportation for some local travel to off-site meetings and events.

    9.      Verification of employment eligibility.

    10.    Passing of background check.

    11.    Other requirements based on primary funder requirements (federal or state).

    12.    Experience and knowledge of MS Office and Outlook software.

    NON-ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    1.      Relevant community outreach training.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    1.      This position does not have formal supervisor responsibilities.

    ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS (WORKING CONDITIONS)

    1.      Ergonomically safe office environment with desktop computer, desk, chair, natural light from windows.

    2.      Outreach in community magnet events including sites/venues that target population frequents. Must be comfortable with environmental conditions at the outreach locations, such as ethnic neighborhood enclaves, community sites including faith and nonprofit sites, and others with law enforcement presence.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

    1.      In the course of performing this job, this position typically spends time sitting, standing, walking, carrying (max.20lbs), lifting (max. 20lbs), listening, and speaking.

    MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

    1.
