    About the Role

    We are seeking a SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to support and maintain mission-critical Microsoft SQL Server environments. This role is ideal for a hands-on database professional who enjoys ensuring the performance, reliability, security, and availability of enterprise systems.

    The DBA will play a critical role in database administration, performance optimization, backup and recovery planning, and high availability solutions. This position supports production environments and works closely with developers, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders to maintain operational excellence and resolve complex technical challenges.

    This is a primarily remote position with occasional on-site support requirements in the Indianapolis area when needed. Hours will vary based on business needs, making this an excellent opportunity for someone seeking supplemental consulting work or a flexible part-time engagement.

    What You'll Do

    Database Administration & Reliability

    Manage and maintain enterprise SQL Server environments to support business-critical applications.

    • Install, configure, maintain, patch, and upgrade SQL Server environments.
    • Perform routine database maintenance, including index rebuilds, integrity checks, and statistics updates.
    • Monitor database health, storage utilization, alerts, and growth trends.
    • Manage database security, permissions, encryption, and access controls.

    Performance Optimization & Troubleshooting

    Ensure optimal database performance and quickly resolve production issues.

    • Monitor and tune database performance, queries, indexes, execution plans, CPU, memory, and I/O utilization.
    • Troubleshoot complex production issues and perform root cause analysis.
    • Partner with development teams to optimize database design and query performance.
    • Support deployments, releases, and schema modifications.

    High Availability & Disaster Recovery

    Protect critical systems through resilient architecture and recovery planning.

    • Design and maintain database backup and recovery strategies.
    • Test restore procedures and validate recovery readiness.
    • Implement and support high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
    • Support capacity planning and database scalability initiatives.

    Automation & Process Improvement

    Increase efficiency through automation and continuous improvement.

    • Automate recurring administration tasks using approved scripting and automation tools.
    • Improve monitoring, reporting, and operational processes.
    • Support evolving infrastructure and technology initiatives.

    What You Bring

    Skill / Qualification| Requirement Level

    Strong knowledge of T-SQL, stored procedures, indexing, backup and recovery, and query optimization| Required
    Experience with high availability technologies and disaster recovery solutions| Required
    Proficiency with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and database monitoring tools| Required
    Understanding of Windows Server administration, storage concepts, and database security| Required
    Experience automating database administration tasks using PowerShell, SQL Server Agent, or similar tools| Required

    Experience supporting multi-server enterprise environments| Highly Desired
    Experience with hybrid cloud environments, Azure, SSIS, SSRS, or data warehousing concepts| Highly Desired
    Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, related field, or equivalent experience| Required

    Work Environment & Travel

    • Primarily remote work arrangement.
    • Must be able to travel on-site to the Indianapolis area when business needs require support.
    • Variable weekly hours based on project and support requirements.
    • Background screening required, including industry-specific compliance checks.
