    Job Description

    The FACILITIES TECHNICIAN position supports the growing demands of the maintenance and improvements of the facility and infrastructure assets of STCU. This position is responsible for providing accountability of facility efficiencies and ensuring business continuity across all disciplines at all locations. It is also responsible to provide support to and to create an environment that is comfortable for all employees. 

    PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES MAINTENANCE AND PLANNING

    • Assist the Senior Facilities Technician and the Facilities Manager in coordinating, prioritizing and planning maintenance and repair projects of existing facilities and equipment.
    • Respond to daily maintenance requests in a timely manner.  Inspect facilities and note any repairs that are needed.  Maintain a log and other records regarding repairs made and service rendered.
    • Responsible for maintaining Energy Star Portfolio Manager for buildings and plants. 
    • Perform monthly maintenance of life safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, exit signs, fire alarm systems and means of egress.  Make seasonal adjustment to timers and other lighting controls as needed with assistance from the Facilities Technician.
    • Assist the Senior Facilities Technician with the maintenance of the HVAC equipment, including boilers, air handling units, pneumatic control compressors, and condensers on a quarterly or as needed basis.
    • Assist the Senior Facilities Technician with maintaining, testing and operating the emergency generators, un-interruptible power supply units and back-up power systems with assistance from the Facilities Technician.  Maintain test results and a log of all service performed.

    FACILITIES PERFORMANCE

    • Responsible for seasonal grounds maintenance, including sprinkler repairs, installation and adjustments, program and operate timers, valves, pumps and other irrigation equipment. Assist with shrub pruning, planting, leaf removal, snow removal and deicing.
    • Perform plumbing repairs on lines, valves, faucets and drains and fixtures. Perform electrical repairs on lights, switches, receptacles, small motors and other devices and fixture. 
    • Perform carpentry repairs and construction, wall repairs, door adjustments, replace or repair hardware, painting and mechanical duties, as assigned. 
    • Fabricate, maintain and service tolls, machinery, jigs or other devices used in the performance of the above duties.
    • Manage assigned capital projects and facility improvements as assigned.
    • Repair, maintain and install office furnishing and office equipment. 
    • Assist with inspecting, maintaining, testing and operating emergency generators, un-interruptible power supply units and backup power systems. 
    • Responsible for maintaining the condition, supplies and tools of the Quick Response Trailer to ensure readiness for response of natural or man-made disaster to ensure sustained business continuity. 
    • Responsible for completing and maintaining the branch facility checklist and facility logs. 
    • Check on the general condition and cleanliness of the refuse, recycling and "blue barrel" programs and the equipment used in conjunction with them.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    • High school diploma or equivalent is required. Associates degree preferred.
    • Minimum of two years’ experience in facilities maintenance as a facilities technician or equivalent position.
    • A BOC Level 1 certification by NEEC or equivalent.
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. 
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
    • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with staff, consultants, vendors, and contractors.
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute/convert the rate, ratio, and percent of square footage, cubic yards, area, perimeter, circumference, board feet, etc. 
    • Valid driver’s license with proof of insurance is required. 
    • Lockout/tag-out training/certification is preferred.
    • First aid/CPR certification is preferred. 
    • Strong work ethic required, including the ability to complete duties on time, consistently arrive at work on time as scheduled, and ability to work flexible and/or extended hours, weekends, overtime and to be on-call within a one hour response time as needed.

     

    PHYSICAL ABILITIES

    • Must be able to regularly stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, as well as reach with hands and arms
    • Must be able to talk, hear, see and operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
    • Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
    • Regularly required to lift, pull, and push up to 100 pounds.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    • Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions.
    • May rarely be exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme heat; risk of electric shock; and vibration.
    • Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting.
    • Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
