    · Knowledge of different styles of dance, with emphasis on folkloric dance.

    · Knowledge of academic vocabulary related to dance.

    · Uphold and support the standards of Step-By-Step Folklórico.

    · Demonstrate skill and knowledge K-12 dance and educational standards.

    · Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with diverse groups of customers and colleagues, both orally and in writing.

    · Manage time and prioritize tasks efficiently.

    · Seek out and accept direction and feedback from supervisor and colleagues and follow through appropriately.

    · Demonstrate trustworthiness and responsible behavior.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

    • 2 Years of successful experience working with children.

    • 2 Years of ballet Folklórico dance experience or 3 years of dance experience in another genre of dance.

    • Classroom teaching experience preferred.

    • Ballet de Folklórico experience preferred.

    • Travel will be required; valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

    BALLET FOLKLORICO YOUTH DANCE INSTRUCTOR – Part Time

    Pay Range: $20.00/hr. - $30.00/hr. DOE

    Reports to: Director of Dance Instruction

    Status: Part-time

    Location: San Bernardino

    JOB SUMMARY:

    Under general supervision of the Step-By-Step Folklórico Director of Instruction, the Ballet Folklórico Youth Dance Instructor will provide dance instruction and other youth enrichment lessons related to Mexican culture to TK-12th grade students on school campuses and beyond during regular school hours and days, after school hours, and non-school hours and days as needed. The Ballet Folklórico Youth Dance Instructor will participate in professional development, manage equipment and supplies, plan lessons, supervise children, teach dance lessons from a variety of states of Mexico, and perform a variety of other related tasks as required.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    · Effectively demonstrate mastery of health, safety, and student interaction expectations and protocols.

    · Proficiently manage small and large groups of students.

    · Proficiently distinguish characteristics from a wide variety of Mexican folkloric dances.

    · Perform effectively as an assistant or lead instructor.

    · Teach and model footwork, dance steps, skirt work, in basic sequences and combinations, and choreography that foster love and excitement for dance.

    · Provide instruction for up to groups of twenty students.

    · Differentiate dances for younger/older and beginner/more advanced learners.

    · Deliver organized, fun, and engaging lessons with the prescribed objectives and lesson plans for direct instruction that support teamwork and collaboration and lead to successful attainment of the student objectives.

    · Deliver mini-lessons in accordance to the provided lesson plans regarding the historical elements that have influenced traditional Mexican dance from multiple states of Mexico including traditional attire, music, art, and storytelling.

    · Utilize instructional and communication strategies that recognize the historical and cultural traditions of ballet Folklórico, and the many cultures who have shaped the art form while also promoting equity, diversity and inclusion.

    · Utilize strategies including mindfulness, group management, and lesson design to implement structured and orderly classes.

    · Utilize stretching, warm-up, posture, body alignment, footwork, skirt work, turns, spacing, and other dance strategies and techniques for effective lessons.

    · Successfully teach basic dance vocabulary and terminology in English and Spanish.

    · Communicate effectively with coworkers, students, and parents.

    · Maintain cooperative and effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

    · Set up and operate audio and video equipment and systems.

    · Accurately complete forms and paperwork.

    · Meet deadlines.

    · Perform duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Preferred Skills/Abilities

    · Experience as a ballet Folklórico dance instructor is preferred.

    · Experience with instructional strategies and techniques for English Learners, GATE, and Special Education.

    · Knowledge of Mexican culture.

    · Fluent in English & Spanish preferred.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position requires supervision and instruction of children.
