    DESCRIPTION

    Reusable systems are the key to seamlessly connecting Earth and space, and the ability to manufacture and iterate quickly is necessary to make reusable systems a reality. As the lead automation engineer at an early-stage start-up, you will own all aspects of design, analysis, test, and fabrication of mechatronic systems used for production and assembly of reusable launch vehicle stages. You will work closely with the vehicle design and manufacturing team through all phases of the design lifecycle. You will seek out state-of-the-art design and manufacturing techniques and tools to solve challenging problems, and you will continuously iterate and improve your designs. You must be ready to stay focused, move fast, self-direct, and learn on the fly.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Exceptional command of fundamentals
    • Proficiency in designing moving mechanisms including actuator selection, kinematic analysis, rolling and sliding joint design, tolerance stackups, and material selection
    • Experience with sourcing, installing, commissioning off-the-shelf industrial robotic systems
    • Demonstrated ability to rapidly troubleshoot and resolve equipment malfunctions
    • Proficiency in selection of key electromechanical actuation components including motors, feedback sensors, gearing, and bearings
    • Demonstrated experience fabricating, assembling, and operating your own designs
    • Excellent documentation and user training skills
    • Experience with CAD tools (Siemens NX preferred)
    • Ability to lead
    • Ability to follow
    • Excellent written and verbal communication
    • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or similar
