Summer Law Clerk – Legal Research & Writing (Federal Appeals)
Are you a law student who enjoys untangling complex legal questions and crafting persuasive legal writing? Do you excel at analyzing case law and want real-world experience in appellate advocacy? Our federal appeals law firm is seeking a detail-oriented, intellectually curious Summer Law Clerk for a paid, part-time position focused on federal Social Security disability appeals.
About the Role
This position offers substantive legal work and mentorship in a specialized area of federal appellate litigation. Law clerks will:
Conduct legal research on issues involving administrative and federal court disability decisions
Assist in reviewing and summarizing recent decisions to update our firm’s internal case law compendium
Draft legal memoranda and assist in drafting federal court briefs under attorney supervision
What We’re Looking For
We welcome applications from rising 2Ls and 3Ls who show strong research and writing skills, and attention to detail. Ideal candidates will have:
A solid academic record
A demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively
Familiarity with legal research tools like Westlaw or Lexis and basic knowledge of Bluebook citation
The ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and take feedback constructively
Prior experience in a journal or moot court is welcomed but not required.
Position Details
Schedule: 25–30 hours/week, flexible based on availability
Duration: Summer 2025, with possible extension into the school year
Location: In-office at our East Brunswick, NJ office (remote work is not currently available)
Compensation: $22/hour
